What are my chances?

GPA: 3.6 UW
SAT: Perfect score.
ACT: 35
Family’s yearly income: $0 - both parents unemployed and on disability, not to mention that they’re seperated.

-I’m a K-9 Handler for my local Search and Rescue team.
-National Honors Society.
-DECA (Regional Winner for Business Law and Ethics).
-Member of school’s Chorus.
-Published writer (poet) with several public readings.

It’s a huge long shot, but I figured I’d ask.

What’s your ethnicity?

White.

Yaaaay affirmative action.

A 3.6 GPA doesn’t sound very good for Duke’s standards, but it depends on your school. What is your class rank? How would you classify your school? Have you taken the most challenging courses offered by your school? While your family’s income isn’t directly relevant to acceptance, if you live in a low socioeconomic area that’s definitely a positive in Duke’s eyes in that you’ve overcome adversity to succeed at such a high level. A perfect SAT and 35 ACT are quite impressive.
