Hi,
I am looking to get into Penn State main campus.
I am a highschool student at a school in the 24th best public school in NJ, and the 434th best public school in the nation.
My grades are not the best, but I try hard. I have a 3.31 gpa in all college prep courses. Every time I have attempted harder courses, despite studying a lot, I ended up dropping them. I have a 1750 SAT and an 1800 superscored, but penn state does not superscore. I have an unsuperscored 1190 without writing, 1240 superscored.
In terms of extra curricular activities, I work two jobs, teach shotput to special needs kids, and have been a varsity football player in football since Sophmore year.
My school’s guidance counselor said that Rutgers is a reach for me, and that Penn State is a target. On the contrary, my Princeton review college counselor says the opposite. Looking at our schools scattergrams, it looks like I have more than a 20 percent chance to get into Penn State, but my Princeton review college counselor doesn’t believe so.
What do you think my chances are of getting into Penn State main campus?
I am a junior BTW.
Thank you
You don’t have to bump so often – many of the parents may be at dinner now, and many of us students are mired in the end-of-semester deluge of work. Just wait and someone will come!

3.31 (UW?) is below the average, and since PSU places 2/3 of the decision on GPA, that means you should probably select summer session and DUS to increase your chances. A 560 W and (my estimate) 590/600ish CR/M puts you in the middle 50% there.
Thanks and sorry I am new to this forum. I am not going to do the 2+2 program, but how much do you think summer session will help?
Which college are you applying to? Smeal, college of engineering, ems? Those colleges will make getting in more competitive. I was above the average gpa and sat and applied to the engineering school after priority deadline and got into summer session. You should apply before the priority deadline asap to get your name in and put summer session down as a possibility. There is no shame in summer session, I turned down Univ of Maryland and Purdue fall start to go to PSU in summer. Just worry about your GPA your sats will probably keep you relatively competitive. Some of my friends got into business with similar scores.
thanks man and I am going undecided.
