Ok so I’m actually freaking out about college apps right now, mostly because I am applying to three schools: University of Washington (safety), UC Berkeley (maybe), and Stanford (reach) and I’m so scared I’m going to end up in my safety. These are all three great schools for chemistry (what I want to major) but I really want to end up at Cal or Stanford. Here are my stats:
- 30 ACT (composite) 29E, 29M, 33R, 30S - and yes I know my ACT score is terrible
- 4.0 GPA (UW)
- taken many AP classes through the years and have always taken the most rigorous courses (5 on AP Calc AB, 5 on APUSH, and 4 in AP Spanish)
- first generation college student
- Asian female
- awesome extracurriculars (club swim team for 8+ years, high school swim team captain, Homecoming Coordinator, leader in student government, volunteer at blood bank and at swim meets, band for 6+ years (invited to honor bands, concert master, and first chair clarinet))
- have won Scholar Athlete Award, one of those AP College Board awards, Rebel Hero Award, Rebel of the Season-World Languages
Please let me know! Also is Cal’s College of Chemistry REALLY hard to get into v. the College of Letters and Sciences??

You are at the 25th percentile in your ACT for UCB which is a very competitive and selective school. If you do not want to attend your safety, I would add a few more match schools to your list.
If you are OOS, it will be even more competitive.
You should definitely apply to more than just those 3 schools. University of Washington is not a safety, especially if you need financial aid OOS @stressedd2017
Those are some impressive stats! I would definitely add more schools if you don’t want to end up at Washington. You might stand a chance at Cal but its a long shot, Stanford is really far out. I wouldn’t count on either, even for a super strong applicant given the randomness of admissions. Good luck!

University of Washington sounds like a match for you, not a safety. Apply to more schools!
Definitely apply to more schools! Stanford has the lowest acceptance rate in the country at 4.7% and your ACT score is on the low end. Your ECs will not stand out at a school like Stanford but give it your best shot and see what happens. In the meantime, get to work researching and applying to schools that are more realistic if you don’t want to attend U Washington
