What ARE my chances?

Hey, I’m a high school Senior, completely terrified of not getting into college. What are my chances? Or maybe some other College suggestions? These are my stats:
SAT: 1200
SATII: math IIC: 700 Writing: 600 Lit:520
GPA: 3.9 out of 4.0
-taken the most difficult classes offered at a College Prep Jesuit High School

Many Many Extra c’s
-excellent essays and rec’s

Asian American, also adopted from So. Korea (does being adopted help at all?)

My Colleges:
Reach: Penn, Columbia, Colgate, Bates
Match: College of the Holy Cross, Fairfield, Loyola MD, Lafayette, Providence, Franklin and Marshall
Safety: Quinnipiac, UConn

I think the lit will hurt you pretty bad for your reaches. Especially for a prep school kid. The SAT is a little on the low end too for your reaches, but I would try to take the lit again or a different one. Being Asian won’t help you I think. I don’t think the adopted will either just because you are obviously with a well off family. I think you should change some of your matches like Loyola to reaches and keep just one of your current reaches. Good luck with whatever you choose to do.

I can’t really help you with stat’s, I’m a freaked out junior at the moment though. And, even if some of your choices are reaches, I’m sure you’ll get into a nice school. Good luck and I hope you have a great time, wherever you end up.

Do you really think that Loyola is a reach for me? Although I am short of their average sat score, my GPA is far above their average. And if I am not mistaken, Loyola is has one of the most homogeneous student bodies in the country?

I don’t know a lot about it, but from what I have heard it is pretty hard to get into. The fact that you go to a prep school and have a low SAT score hurts you the most probably, because you can probably afford private test prep where as there are people out there making 1400s and 1500s that can barely afford a cheap SAT prep book if even that. These are you competition for UPenn and Columbia. That is why I say you don’t have much of a chance at your reaches. You probably know more about Loyola than I do, and if you really want to go there, you should apply. Reach schools are supposed to be schools you can get into, just with an up in the air chance. As you said, your GPA is great, but you SAT is a bit low, so its up in the air. Best of luck to you.

How much will it help that my father is an alum or UPenn, and mother of Columbia?

It helps to some extent, but you are adopted. It should still count though, but legacy chances are still below like 25% (at columbia at least)
