What are my chances?

I am a full time student athlete (figure skater) and is applying to grade 9. I am applying to Milton, Middlesex, Concord Academy, and maybe Exeter or Andover. I need no financial aid and is fully asian (Japanese). On my last SSAT I got an 87th percentile (90 in Q, 83V, 75R), but I think I was pretty lucky on this test. I have straight As for this year and 7th grade, and made a club at my school, tutor, and also run in student congress. For athletic achievement, I am a 3 time qualifier for the National development Team for figure skating, ranked top 10-20 nationally (youngest in my level), and also was chosen to compete at an international competition. I think I am able to get an edge over others in terms of my SSAT scores because my first language is Japanese. I am taking the SSAT again . I think my essays are not bad, but need some work.

Do you guys have any advice to strengthen my application? Thank you in advance.

I forgot to mention I also play the Violin, do ballet, and also attend a Saturday Japanese school.

You are a very strong applicant! Good luck!

Thank you!!

Hi! I don’t know much about chancing, but I’m pretty sure that none or few of the schools you are applying to offer figure skating? I’m not too sure about that though, but if they don’t I would suggest trying out for hockey and connecting with the coaches. Regardless you seem like a very strong applicant good luck!!

They don’t but these sorts of schools like impressive achievement, even if they don’t offer that particular sport.

Thank you for your advice!

Congratulations on your accomplishments.

If I was reviewing your application, I would want to understand where ice skating fits into your plans. Do you plan on continuing with ice skating if accepted to one of these schools. If yes, I would suggest you address how this will work with your time and school schedule in your application or with a follow up.

The self discipline to be involved in skating is a real strength, but how will that translate to your time at their school.

If you are not continuing skating outside of the school (if even available) I would recommend you make sure your application shows what you will be doing at the school - how will you be involved in their community - what interests you for example specific clubs, other sports or ? How will you contribute to the community and not just individual pursuits?

Also, are you a US citizen or International? Schools will view differently even if you are full pay.

I am planning to continue figure skating, and the reason I chose these schools are because of the flexibility of them/past experiences with figure skaters with the great academics. I currently wake up at 5 and skate before school as well as after school. Thank you for your advice for follow ups to schools for scheduling. I think I will still continue to contribute to whatever community by doing dance or cross country because it will still benefit my figure skating.

I have a green card and I lived here since I was 4. i was actually born in Hong Kong because of my parents work, and was able to have exposure to a diverse community from a young age. I think this idea of experience with diverse people and community will also strengthen my application.

I took my first Prometric SSAT on Sunday and I think I got 90+, but I’m not sure.
