Your grades definitely seem good, it would probably help others chance you if you put your unweighted GPA, class rank, school type/difficulty, number of volunteer hours, etc. Hopefully, you will be able to get your SATs up, especially for schools like Yale and MIT. Also, it would definitely help if you can get leadership positions in those clubs for your senior year, so it would look to colleges like you really care and aren’t just looking for resume-boosters. A question --National Hispanic Honor Society: Is this National Spanish Honor Society, or is it different? If you’re Hispanic, that will definitely help you get into some of those schools.

Yale – super reach
Upenn – super reach
Columbia – super reach
Rutgers – realistic
Njit – safe
Stevens – realistic
Manhattan College – safe
Carnegie Mellon – reach
MIT – good luck
Cooper Union – reach

Also, you seem like a humanities-type person (from your ECs), and a prospective major in engineering seems kind of random. Make sure that these colleges really understand where you’re coming from when you apply. Also, make sure that you take the Math 2 SAT II if you’re truly set on applying to MIT and the Ivy League. Good luck!

Thanks… yes I am Hispanic…also i already have six college credits for spanish from Seton Hall University if that helps and I will also be getting 4 college credits at NJIT this summer for calculus. My volunteer hours total up to 170 hrs. My dont know my unweighted GPA and my school doesnt rank. Also what should I do if i cant obtain a leadership position for my ECs.

you are a good candidate for all those schools…
HOWEVER, these schools have thousands of good candidates
find yourself some safeties and matches…that way you are safe
but you could def get into some of these with some luck

If you can’t get leadership roles in your ECs, try to let colleges know (when you apply) that you are involved and actually do care about your activities, either through essays or recs from club advisers. Also, it may really help to get an internship with an engineering company, or to try for a Seimen’s Award (probably won’t happen, but it would definitely help if you won something). Think about inventing something and getting a patent. It’s probably ridiculous and/or unfeasible at this point, but it would make you stand out. Also, take the other posters’ advice and find more matches, and make sure you like them just as much (or almost as much) as your reaches. You don’t want to end up stuck with a safety you don’t actually want to attend.
