What are my chances?

Hey everyone, I am going to be an obsessed teenager and post all my high school info as well as my college list (I’m currently a senior in California). If anyone knowledgable in the area could give me a general response about what my chances may be for these schools, I would greatly appreciate it and would be happy to do the same for you!

List (* = top choice):
University of British Columbia
McGill
*Vassar
*Bard
Hampshire
*Lewis & Clark
*Reed
University of Oregon
UCLA/Cal/UC Santa Cruz
Middlebury
Occidental
Carleton

Grades:

 1. freshman year - Semester 1 3.4, S2 3.7
 2. sophomore year - S1 3.7, S2 3.7
 3. junior year - S1, I got a full scholarship from the state department to study in Turkey for 6 months (august - february), I got a 4.0, as well as a 5 in the first semester of AP US History (taken the summer after sophomore year), making that a 4.1. For the second semester, I went back to regular US history, and got a 3.66. (However I am taking AP psychology this summer to boost that, hopefully it will become a 3.8)
 4. For my senior year, I am taking 2, maybe 3 AP classes and one free period, and a, definitely motivated to get straight As.

Activities:
-I have been actively babysitting since freshman year, and have 1-4 gigs every week. -During my freshman year, I was a nationally ranked archer (3rd in the state for my age group), although I didn’t have enough time in my schedule to continue it formally it is still a valued hobby.
-Since my sophomore year I have been an active and valued member of a community service club at my school, and will be global education officer this coming year.
-I play viola (I have been taking lessons since 5th grade) in an advanced youth orchestra, and toured internationally with them, performing in the Sydney Opera House. For my sophomore year I played in 2 youth orchestras, and was also on the track team for a semester.
-During the first semester of junior year I was living with a host family and going to school in Turkey, and taught English to pre-schoolers for a 2-month period. I came on a full scholarship, and did not have any kind of “Western European” experience (unfortunately!). I was chosen for this scholarship from over 1000 students that applied for the program. When I got back, I jumped right back into my previous schedule, and although it was extremely difficult processing/adapting upon my return, I think I did alright.
-Throughout sophomore year and the second semester of junior year, I volunteered as a teacher’s assistant for a weekly after-school art class (2 hours a week) at my old elementary school.
-I plan to keep all of these activities up throughout senior year.

Test Scores:
I took the SAT, and got a 1900 (590 Math, 630 CR, 680 Writing) - but I know I can do better in math (I have gotten >680 on multiple practice tests)
I plan to take the US History and English subject tests in the fall, and am currently studying for them. I am expecting to get above 600 on both of them, so hopefully that will work out.

I may not have the best academic profile, but I am extremely passionate about all of my activities, and very self-motivated to do well and learn for the sake of learning. That is what is most important to me.

Advice?

Thank you so much to whoever responds, it means a lot!!

For schools like Carleton and Middlebury you will definitely need to raise your scores

Yeah, hopefully studying this summer will pay off in the fall! Do you know anything about Reed, and if they accept students with my type of academic profile?

With a higher score you look promising for most of these schools if you are full pay. Many of the schools on your list do not offer good aid, so this would not be the best list without very top stats (for each college’s pool) if you need aid.

I don’t know about Cal, your test scores really are below average. If you can explain your ECs very well, I think that will cover up your test scores though. Other than that, write a good essay and get good recommendations.

P.S - Also (for UCs) it helps that your instate

Chance me back: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/953055-please-chance.html

It’s a shame you didn’t continue archery… That and your youth orchestra which tours internationally is what really stands out.

As you know, you should really work on your SAT score. You can do it!!

I have been continuing archery, just not formally on a team… Do you think it would be a good idea to join my team again for this year?

Thank you so much everyone, I really appreciate the input!

Yeah… can you try to improve your national ranking?

i’m lookin at middlebury too! anyways for middlebury at least you can either use youor sat i, act, or 3 sat ii’s when applying so keep that in mind. i think lewis and clark, bard, and occidental should be easy money. don’t really kow about the others. chance bck?

Even though you are OOS I think you would be very competitive for admission to the University of Oregon. The U of O has many students from California and although the admission criteria for OOS is a little higher than for in-state you should have no trouble meeting them.
