What are my chances?

I am an Active Duty Soldier with about a year and a half left in service. I completed all 4 years of high school, but never received my diploma due to unfinished credits, so I got a GED before I joined the Army. Since my separation date is nearing, I have been looking at what schools I would like to apply to and OSU is one of my top choices.

I have never taken a standardized test before, but assuming I perform well in that…what are my chances of getting into OSU with a GED?

Honestly, you’re going to have a very difficult time. Ohio has some very generous financial benefits for veterans going to public universities, but that doesn’t mean automatic admission to the state’s flagship campus, and with no test scores, it’s virtually impossible to tell how close or far from admission you are.

Have you taken any accredited college courses while in the service? That would help compensate for the GED.

If Ohio State is your ultimate goal, I see the likely path–barring a 30+ on the ACT–as taking a year or two at a community college or one of Ohio’s open admission campuses, then applying to OSU as a transfer.
