This may seem odd that I’m writing for my friend but I am tired of hearing her stress about how she has to apply to college in the fall and doesn’t think she will get int anywhere. (I already got into college which is why I decided to help her) But here are her stats and I was hoping someone on this site could help to give her some advice when she is applying.
- She was in Leadership for 4 years (she got in for next year which is really great)
- She was freshman class sec/treasurer and is senior class VP
- Her freshman year she started middle eastern student association at our school (which I was the VP of and she was president) and it’s gotten her a lot of connections
- She’s been interning at Stanford Health Care since last summer and this is her second year doing it
- She also interns at UCSF (I don’t know how she gets these things it’s insane)
- She runs a blog that focuses on political activism especially in like Northern California where we’re from
- This summer she thought of the idea to do a fundraiser for Syria and Palestine by selling shirts that are like graphic t-shirts but also are “trendy” and she’s already started doing it
- Me and her did varsity golf, she’s in her third year and I just finished my fourth but she said she’s playing next year too
- She. Wrote. A. Book. and I have no idea if it’s being published through a company yet but I’m pretty sure it’s on Amazon and Apple Books now
- She’s taken so many summer classes at the JC and i don’t know if she’s doing it this year but she’s really ahead in math
- She writes for this South Asian online magazine, I don’t know the name but she’s extremely passionate about her writing and just overall helping people
But what my friend won’t stop stressing herself out about is her GPA and grades. She has a 34 ACT but she’s retaking it so who know’s what grade she’ll get but she showed me her transcript and she has a 3.4 weighted overall GPA but I don’t know if it’ll go up because I don’t think she’s turned in her transcripts from the JC but on top of that (and the reason I’m writing this) is that my friend has 3 D’s on her transcript from her underclassman years and I don’t want to lie to her and say it’s no big deal but it is a big deal. The classes she took at the JC were repeats of the classes she got the D’s in but I still don’t know if she has the GPA to go to her dream school which is Berkeley and is also where I’m headed this fall.
The question is, what are her chances of getting in anywhere really. I know she’s applying only in-state for California to schools like UCD, UCLA, UCB, USC and i think Stanford too but she’s only applying to a few because of her grades. This past year she’s done exceptionally well though, I think she had above a 4.0 both semesters, but will someone please help because I am out of answers and I don’t know what to tell her anymore but I am being hopeful.
Please let me know, thanks!
