<p>I am applying to MIT, Stanford and Caltech for sure, but I do not have a strong grade. I did OK in 10th and 9th grade, with mostly A, but did poorly in 11th grade with 3 or 4 C and the rest is A. I did self study for AP since I am in an IB school. I got 5 for Cal BC and 4 for PHy C Mech.
DId poorly on the SAT I(just cannot do the vocab), but I have pretty strong SAT II. I am an international student. What are my chance for these schools?</p>

<p>Many state schools have excellent engineering programs. Out-of-state admissions even for U.S. citizens is significantly harder, so it’s hard to peg any specific one as a definite safety.</p>
<p>Many of the “Big 10” schools in particular have great engineering programs. U. of Illinois has a top 10 program, although I don’t know whether you could get in out-of-state. Michigan admissions is even harder, although they also have a good program. Maybe Purdue could be a safety?</p>
<p>I’m assuming your worse grades are humanities, which won’t hurt you as much in the admissions process. I would ask the schools what your chances of admissions are. Admissions at big schools tends to be less secretive and more systematic, and they probably would give you a pretty good idea if you could get in. For example, for in-state people you used to be able to calculate from GPA and SAT/ACT whether you qualified for admission at U. of Illinois.</p>
