So, where do i suck?

First, it depends where you are trying to go to college. Secondly, I would say that you need more ECs that involve community service. I think that your SATs are fine. If I were you, I would just concentrate on my grades to make sure they don’t slip, adn I would get involved with my things such as community service, clubs, etc.

1)rank
2)leadership in ecs and community service

ok, as a guideline, here are my schools (that i think i might have a shot at, not my entire list)
Caltech
Harvey Mudd
Carnegie Mellon
Reed
Pomona
UC Berkeley
Cornell
UCLA
UCSD
and for the hell of it, MIT, and HYPS.

oh and how much better is coaching a little league team than community service? (is it better?)

Your weakness are your class rank and CR score. If you come from a school that rarely send kids to top schools top 9% isn’t good, you will need to be val or sal for top colleges. WY will help as would being a baseball recruit…

dont care about how things look to colleges, if u want to coach little league, do it. plan a big service project for summer and start a club next year if ur that worried, does the valedictorian of ur class have the same courseload as u and a 4.0/others applying to similar schools? cuz then u wont look good at all and itll just seem like u go to the biggest inflating school on the planet. u post alot on this site, get some opinions from people u know and can trust rather than me and suze arguing.

lol okay. actually the valedictorian doesnt have a courseload as heavy as me. in fact its not even close. my HS doesnt rank based on difficult classes at all, so there are some people who are still in algebra one who have a higher rank than me. sigh…
oh and hell yeah im gonna coach. its gonna be sweet.

I don’t think class rank is going to play a big deal because the colleges will see that there is no weighted GPA and he seems to be missing only one A

As for the whole baseball coaching bit, I would do that over community service if I were you. You seem to be very passionate about baseball, and I think it would look just as good, so do what you are more comfortable with.

Your weakness I would think is that nothing in particular stands out. But then again, there is no weak spot to you. You seem to be extremely well-rounded, and coming from a school that sends no one to Ivies in the middle of nowhere and being a URM is going to look really good on college apps. I don’t see reason to bother taking any of your tests again, or to join any other random clubs or classes just so it can show up on college applications. You have everything you need. :)

thanks a low erhswimming! okay, so that means i can assure myself that im doing the right thing.

Most definitely! You have a decent hook (really, how many Sri Lankans are there in Wyoming?) and nothing is lacking on your application.

haha ok good. and yeah, im 99.99 percent sure im the only sri lankan (in my age group) in all of WY.

bumpity bump bump

just out of curiosity, do you speak tamil?
i’m asking only because i do. :)

you can’t turn water into wine

tsk tsk

no college for you

yeah i do speak tamil. thats cool!
and elihj, what? fine screw you too.

You should apply to Amherst.

um, amherst? hmm ill do some research on it. thanks kenshinsan. oh and im guessing you mean amherst college? not umass amherst

my best friend from elementary school was sri lankan (totally irrelevant)

shesh man chill, it was a joke on the idea that people get so worked up e.c.'s grades, AP’s, and other crap to the point that if you can’t preform a miracle (i.e. turning water into wine) you might as well give up on college.

btw you stuff seems gravy ecept for the wymoning part. Not to dis the state or anything, just public schools and wymoning don’t seem to go together. Though, i must, the state is trying; last year it gave 500 million dollars to the univeristy of wymoning. you might be to early to see that money mature into a something, i dunno, you may want to look in to U of Wy in money be an issue.
