What are Outside Scholarships?

If the outside scholarships crosses my tuition fees and the college too has provided me with scholarship, which scholarship will be reduced? Are outside scholarships reliable and renewable? Does a separate form need to be filled to apply for it? I am really confused about it… Please help!!!

Outside scholarships are usually scholarships you find on your own. They are usually for a short period of time. If you are on need-based aid, some outside scholarships may reduce your school scholarship aid by that amount.

You’re an int’l. There really aren’t outside scholarships here for you. Are you looking for them in your home country?

Outside awards usually reduce institutional aid.

^ Outside scholarships can be from an international source too. For instance, there are CommonWealth and Croucher scholarships. Anything that is not from the enrolled school is considered outside scholarships. You need to check what does the scholarship covers though. It will not only reduce your need/gap and therefore need based financial aids, it may also have conflict with other scholarships, for instance, if they are both for tuition.
