What are some cultural faux pas among MIT students?

What are some things they look down on?

pretension

Lack of discretion

Talking about grades or (gods forbid) SAT scores.

Does anyone really talk about SAT scores at MIT? “I got an 800 math!” “oh yeah me too”. “oh yeah me too”. Doesn’t seem like that conversation would ever go anywhere.

^^ That is really funny.
I remember an article I read awhile ago, and an admission dean of an elite college said that since every applicants is so bright, he actually is more impressive by someone who has a part time job at McDonald’s.

Eh, sometimes freshmen who think this is important or a point of showing off will. It fades in a month or so.

bragging about how much you work, or alternatively bragging about how little you work.

^I don’t think the former is a faux pas at MIT, so long as it’s clear to all parties that you’re complaining, not bragging. ;)

^^BTW, I’m very impressed by the ease of navigations of MIT’s admission website. Especially for a parent like me, who started experiencing Presbyopia.
