I’m applying to schools this year and I was wondering what schools I should apply to that is relatively easier to get into like 60%+ acceptance rate. I’m looking for a school with good rigor and a nice community. I also like art and I like fencing. I would also like a school with generous FA since I need a lot of FA especially since my older brother is currently attending a private high. My current school list is
Commonwealth
Cambridge School of Weston
Boston University Academy
Boston College High
Belmont Hill
Concord Academy
Loomis
If you like the way CSW does its classes and schedule, check out George School. No fencing but excellent art. Generous FA.
Mercersberg is a great school with good FA.
Masters has fencing.
Brooks, Lawrence Academy, Worcester academy are all in your neck of the woods and less competitive than some. Not sure about FA, and may be sportier than what you seem to be looking for.
You may want to consider and check out Culver Academies.
They have a Fencing team and the school brings them to most of the USA Fencing NACs - one of the very few high schools that do so. They also fence with other high schools mainly in nearby Greater Chicago/ Illinois area. They’re big on sports with strong football, ice hockey, rowing, lacrosse and even equestrian teams!
Not sure of the exact admissions rate but I’m sure it’s not in the teens - i think 30 to 40% acceptance rate.
They gave us a substantial financial aid due to their large endowment.
Though it’s in Indiana - the location could be a good or bad thing depending on your preference. They have bus shuttles to O’Hare/ Midway and Indianapolis 2 hours away during school breaks.
Our daughter loves it there and thriving. She speaks well of her teachers and how she enjoys the learning environment. The Admin is quite responsive and very understanding. As parents, so far we have no complaints. Don’t be put off since the boys are under the “Military Academy” - they’re under a different set of rules. Girls are under a “Leadership Academy” where leadership skills are honed and opportunities abound.
BC High and Belmont Hill are VERY different than CSW or Commonwealth for that matter. Unusual overlaps!
Chapel Hill Chauncey Hall will have a high acceptance rate and presumably you are local (given your list!), They won’t require scores, or very high ones (unlike Commonwealth, BUA, Belmont Hill…) Not sure it has fencing or not though…
Lawrence Academy maybe? higher rate than some schools from what I gather. …
I am surprised BB&N and Rivers aren’t on your list…though maybe to do with fencing? I would think BB&N has good aid…
