I’m going to Italy soon and I’ve never traveled before. What are some must-have things I should bring? Thanks!

Clothes, underwear, comfortable shoes, flip flops, tooth paste, tooth brush, money, personal stuff, coats, socks, camera, book, shovel, mighty putty, umbrella. I mean anything you want really… lol

Hey, I’m going to Italy soon too! Where are you headed? I’ll be in Rome :)

As an experienced traveler, I always carry 5 essentials with me: noise-canceling headphones, lotion, lip balm, a sweater, and tissues.
The headphones are so useful for blocking the noise in the cabin. If you don’t have any noise-canceling headphones, that’s fine too - any pair should do.
Lotion and lip balm help protect your skin against the cabin’s dry air. Also remember to drink lots of water.
Airplanes are cold! I know I sound like an overprotective mother, but this is a time when you really need a sweater, even if it’s 75 degrees on the ground. Sometimes I get the sniffles while flying, so I carry a little packet of tissues too.

Hope this helps! Have fun!

Make sure you bring layers. Airports/planes tend to be chilly.

Id recommend putting this stuff in your carry-on: an extra set of clothes, passport, cash/debit card, a small amount of medicine (a capsule or two of pepto, Tylenol, whatever, and of course prescription meds), an empty refillable water bottle (water keeps you hydrated, and having a refillable bottle will save you money since you can just fill it up at a water fountain), and a toothbrush. And then of course whatever you want to entertain yourself. Keep any valuable jewelry or whatnot in your carry-on too, just in case.

Some of that stuff may seem silly, but planes get delayed or cancelled. And when you’re sitting in an airport in the same clothes you’ve been wearing for 2 days, feeling sick and disgusting, it’s not fun. (Happened to me last year coming home from England) I wish I had been more prepared.

Travel light and stick with the bare minimum if you want to travel without any hassle. Clothing that can last longer and dry quickly is a great investment (look into Marmot and Coolibar) and it’ll save you trunk space. A sturdy nylon bag (Deuter or Osprey would be my recommendations). It’ll also be a good investment because it’ll last you years and wont wither away after only a few trips. Then, when it comes to random accessories, I’d advise against unnecessary items like lip balm, sun screen, etc. just for the sake of easy travelling. Such items are better to be bought at the destination you’re staying at. Must-haves: extra socks and underwear, a form of entertainment (like an iPod/iPad), comfy and durable shoes (you’ll never go wrong with a pair of Nike Classics Nylons. They can last a nuclear holocaust, and they’re the comfiest shoes I’ve ever come across).
