<p>other than good grades/GPA and SAT scores, what are somethings that an international student can do to make his application stand out more than the others? Im a junior. Planning on doing Industrial Engineering/Management Engineering (almost the same thing). </p>
<p>For starters, I applied to a competitive summer program where 25 students make business plans, attend 27 days worth of workshops and seminars by established businessmen in the mideast, and then present their business plans to banks, venture capital firms, and “angel investors”, only 3 will be chosen (unlimited capital potential). Still dont know if I got accepted.</p>

<p>Made 2010 Physics Olympiad school Team, but was too sick to represent my school at the Provincial Olympiad.</p>
<p>Oh, I also made 6 economic predictions (very accurate, not brash) with specific timings (so far, 2 have come true, that crude oil will reach a new long term high, and that the DOW will bypass 11000) in a student-magazine, but the publication was scrapped and a first issue was never printed, although the editor-in-chief (supposed to be) can vouch for me. If you want to make money, heres my third: The dollar will strengthen for a final run (sometime in late spring to mid fall) before being hosed down by the chinese yuan.</p>
<p>I played Division II basketball for 1 year (then moved to saudi arabia), Orange belt Karate, a bunch of medals/outstanding achievement honours (2 subjects) and 2 for sport, citizenship award, and a prestigious (atleast at the school) medal {had to be nominated by 3 teachers to be eligible for the award, I won…though it was in grade 9}</p>
<p>All of that and a financial statement indicating that your family is good for full Cost of Attendance for four years will get you into any number of programs. If you need financial aid, all bets are off.</p>
<p>I dont need financial aid. Im either going on my fam’s money or a full-ride scholarship from the government (thankfully, no strings attached at all), I think I talked about that in an old scholarship thread. Full tuition, clothes allowance,food allowance, books allowance, monthly stipend @ 3k usd, roundtrip air tickets home every 9 months, the works. I can only pray to god that I get the scholarship, cuz:
1-my dad can be a scrooge sometimes, he would never drop a penny and not pick it up again, no matter what. Kinda contrasts his bank account! youd think hed drop bejamins and not care!
2-I doubt the selection process of the scholarship.</p>

<p>If you don’t need financial aid, you can apply anywhere. Each institution sets its own policies about admission, so you will need to cast a wider net than just the “top 5 for engineering”.
