What are some good safety schools for OOS students?

I’m a US Citizen living abroad, but I was born in Boston (could I go as in-state in MA?). I have my matches/reaches, but I don’t have any safeties. Where could I apply to?

brief stats: (go to http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/956683-chances-hispanic-panama-ivies-other.html</a> for more specifics)

GPA: 3.91 (1 or 2 out of 58)
SAT I: 2120 (680CR-710M-730W)
SAT II: 800 Math II, 780 Chem, 780 Bio E

National Merit Scholar, National Hispanic Recog. Program

ECs: MUN (Secretary-General, traveled to China, NY, The Hague, debated in Venezuela and Panama too)
200+ hours comm. serv.
HS Treasurer, involved in theater

Applying to HYS, Brown, Chicago, Rice, UofT/McGill, U Michigan (though I might take off a school or two depending on which safeties I choose).

Thanks!

What do you want to major in?

There are thousands of colleges that would be safeties for you with those good stats, if you can afford them. Are you applying for FA?
I strongly doubt you could be considered an in-state applicant at U-Mass if your parents are not living and working there.

Go to the Financial Aid forum, and look for threads on guaranteed scholarships. Your stats are good enough to qualify you for some of them.

As for whether or not you could be considered a state resident in MA, you will need to research the residency requirements there.

I’d like to major in something related to biology (biochem, biotech, etc.), and I am applying for FA. I’ll look at the guaranteed scholarships, thanks for the advice!

I think Duke offers FA to students like you too. I’m not sure about Johns Hopkins but it’s one of the best for biology. I would personally put that number 2 in my list (just behind Harvard) if I will be majoring in biology and hope to go to med school someday.

I don’t know if JHU is for me, but Duke is definitely a school I was thinking about. Thanks, I’ll look into the FA situation on Duke

Why do you think you can’t fit in at JHU? There isn’t any significant difference between the two other than the athletic department.

Definitely look for guaranteed scholarships. You would not be in-state for Mass:
