What are some novels that you have found to be inspirational?

I have to write about a “work of literature” that I found inspirational and it’s impact on me for one of my supplements. I have a few in mind already but none that I’m crazy about. I’m looking for any suggestions of novels that you guys have found particularly inspirational that I could read and hopefully feel the same way about? Thanks.

What may be inspirational to one person may not be to another… if you have a few in mind already why don’t you start writing and see where it takes you? If you don’t like it then, maybe you can ask for suggestions. :/

Are there any poems that resonate with you?

I’ve never been much of a novel-reading person.

I’ve considered poems, but I’ve always liked novels much better. I was just looking for any suggestions that might not only help me find a good book to read but also give me some material for my essay. I’m currently reading Jane Eyre and thinking I might just go with that unless I find something else.

My daughter wrote a supplement about “The Sparrow” by Mary Doria Russell. Not everyone’s cup of tea, but it was hers.

Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll look into it!

“Proper” literature:
Ralph Waldo Emerson works
Great Expectations

Novels, but not classics:
The Alchemist (very inspirational for me  this one’s a bit more spiritual)
Tale of Despereaux
A Walk to Remember

Some of these were sweet to me, so maybe they’ll be inspirational to someone else.

What kind of novels do you like? What do you tend to find inspirational? Your question is pretty broad right now.

Not a classic by any means, but I found “My Sister’s Keeper” to be very inspirational. I haven’t seen the movie but I really loved the book. You should check it out! :)

What did you read in English class your sophomore or junior year? FWIW, my daughter took a course junior year in high school entitled “Great Books” and she read:

The Feast of Love, Charles Baxter (2000)

Everything Is Illuminated, Jonathan Safran Foer (2002)

For summer reading at my school I was assigned and just finished reading The Last lecture, while it’s not a classic it was very inspirational.

thanks for all of the suggestions!

and @stressedouttt I’m not completely sure what I’m looking for to be honest but I feel like I could really relate to any stories about working hard to overcome adversity… pretty broad I know but that’s all I can really think of.

I’ve had to read quite a few books as part of required reading for school, and I found I enjoyed these the most (they’re fantastic books, definitely check them out even if you don’t necessarily find them inspirational):

Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck
The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck
Night by Elie Wiesel
Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston
The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien
The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver
