What are strategic admissions ?

I read on a thread that Princeton used to practice strategic admissions. What exactly is this ? (And What’s the tufts syndrome ?)

Thanks

Tufts syndrome refers to the (allegedly) disgruntled students at Tufts who are only at Tufts because they got rejected from Ivy League schools. I have no idea how true this is.

actually, I thought tufts syndrome referred to colleges such as Tufts and WUSTL who reject/waitlist overqualified students who they feel are only using them as safety schools.

Ok Thanks for clarifying the whole “Tufts Syndrome” stuff. Now what are strategic admissions ?

Admitting kids with lower-SAT scores because they WILL go to the set university (As they can’t get into a better university* ?) to improve yield ?

Jyankees is right. And anecdotal and statistical evidence would say that Tufts no longer rejects or waitlists overqualified students. WUSTL, however, seems to still do this.

Can someone clarify Strategic Admissions ?
