What are teacher evaluations?

The common app has a downloadable form called “Teacher Evaluation.” What is that about? How do I know if my college needs one? Do all colleges need one? If my college needs on, will my teacher be able to do it online when I add his email to my recommendation invitation thing?

It all depends on the school. Go to their website and check out their admissions requirements. Usually, all of the colleges you apply to through the Common App require that form either electronically or you can also print out and hand to your teachers for them to mail directly to the college (I think this is what they prefer from what I’ve heard). To add teachers, just add their email to the list, but you should probably ask them what they want to do first. Like I said, it really depends on the circumstances.

Ask your guidance office about the procedure at your school.

At our school, students asked teachers for letters of recommendation, and the teachers turned them in to Guidance (usually they used the Common App form). Then guidance made copies and sent them to the colleges.

Other high schools have the teachers mail them directly. I believe the Common App now has an online recommendation feature as well.

Each college’s Admissions website should tell you if you need a teacher evaluation (Letter of Recommendation), and if so how many they want.

easier than that - when you add a school in the common app, it will tell you how many applications you need.

Not all colleges require recommendations, but most of the selective ones do.

Through the common app website you will add your teachers’ names and email addresses and then for each school you will select the teachers you want to recommend you. when you hit submit on the school forms section the teachers will get an email from the common app inviting them to recommend you (talk to them before you hit that button). They can then either recommend you online or print out the form and mail it in. If they tell you that they want to mail it in, you can help by printing the forms and providing stamped, addressed envelopes. If your school uses naviance this procedure might vary a bit.

You need to get moving on this if you are a senior. Do this part of the application process now even if you aren’t planning on submitting your applications for a while yet. You want to be sure your teachers aren’t rushed as deadlines get close.
