What are the benefits of FAFSA?

I just got my father’s pin number two weeks ago, and I got mine a month ago.
I know that I will fill the application online. How do I really use this application? Where do I send this application? What are the benefits?
Do you guys know other than FAFSA? I heard something starts with C…
PLEASE ANSWER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, I BETTER FINISH MY APPLICATION QUICKLY. AM I LATE OR STILL HAVE A TIME TO DO IT?

The FAFSA helps colleges determine how much financial aid they should give you based on need. Some colleges even require a FAFSA to give out merit aid.

There is so much information in the Financial Aid Forum: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/forumdisplay.php?f=7</a></p>

Just look around.

The C word you are thinking of is the CSS. At some colleges or universities, along with the FAFSA, they require students to fill out a CSS profile specifically for their school. I would hurry and check your college’s deadlines, they are probably soon. Good luck!

Apparently fin aid stuff is the one part of your app that can be sent a little late, and you will probably be ok. Of course if you don’t submit by the deadline, colleges can’t guaruntee they can meet 100% of your need. Basically, FAFSA and CSS determine how much money your family is expected to pay for college each year based on their taxes/income/etc. The difference between that number and the cost of tuition is met by schools that meet 100% of aid. Sometimes it is important to fill out of the FAFSA and the CSS for merit scholarship consideration. You will have to check with the specific schools you are applying to for that. A lot of the deadlines for my schools’ finaid stuff is Feb. 1 or Mar. 1. One schools’ deadline was earlier. Don’t stress, though; just get your stuff in ASAP.

I did the FAFSA and my EFC was like 999,999. My parents’ combined income per year isn’t near that at all…so expect numbers that will be a bit of a stretch if you are middle class especially.

FAFSA kinda screws over the middle class. I always advise people filling out the FAFSA to get help from a professional. They know the ins and outs, and the loopholes.
