What are the best ways to apply for Grants?

I am 28 years old wanting to go back to college. I want to see what Grants I qualify for. What are the best sites to do this
on? I have already done my FAFSA.

You say ‘go back’ to college. Do you already have an undergrad degree?

I actually am not “going back”. Im sorry it will be my first time. Sorry.

Have you applied and been accepted or are you looking to how to pay so you can apply?

You have already looked at what federal, state aid is available to you and what the college might give and now you are looking for outside grants? That is a huge search effort. Often outside grants are for 500 or 1,000 and are for one year only.

fyi, there is a section of the forum for ‘non traditional students’ which are older students who have 5+ year gap from HS to college. There may be some good info in there.

FAFSA is one of the only ways. The schools will receive your FAFSA info and then they will give you whatever grants you’re entitled to thru the feds, and maybe from the school.

Some states will not give state aid to older students. What is your state?

What was your FAFSA EFC?

@Brownparent
I have been accepted to this one online school yes. But i may not attend there. I have other options

@mom2kids
I live in Texas. And what is EFC?

Is this an online for profit school for something art-related or video game design?

Its Southern New Hampshire Online. Creative Writing with a concentration of Fiction. Its a non profit scbool.

OK, that’s not too bad. What would be the purpose of that? Any aim in particular that couldn’t be fulfilled through just writing and writing workshops? I am asking because older students often start or return to school with an aim to something job related.

How much does it cost to complete 30 credits at that school?

It appears that for a years worth of credits (30), the cost is about $10k plus books. If that’s true, that isn’t a lot.

But, attending a CC in your area would be cheaper…a lot cheaper.

https://www.aidcalc.com/snhu <= use that to find out if you qualify for any aid.

@BrownParent
I get what your saying. But i’ve always wanted to just write fiction. Perhaps for the gaming industry one day. I know its unique and sounds a bit silly but yea. That schools seems to be one of the best for that.

@Mom2kids
Yea i’ve looked into some. CCs not just in my area but in Texas. To get some general courses outta the way. I really want to move on in life. My situation and story is a little unique and sad tbh… I’m tired of the area i live in.

Like would prefer to take everything at the online school (basics and all) but i am seeing my options for CCs as well.

Because tbh i don’t even have broadband internet where i live.
