This Fall, I took Physics 1- mechanics and when the final grades came I got an F. However, I passed all my other courses. I want to transfer to a smaller university that has more resources for students who struggle like myself. Honestly, I thought I wasn’t going to pass calculus 2. That is because I always had help and got tutoring from Colgate University. This semester was very challenging for me and I ended up passing calculus without help. My main problem is that SUNY Albany doesn’t have the resources I want and need. I want to transfer to a smaller university where the resources are much better and with less student, it is better for me. If I don’t get in, I WILL just stay at UAlbany.

SUNY Owego
SUNY Brockport
ESF
Stony Brook
How many transfers are you actually going to accrue? Do your parents have an opinion? You have an educator parent, right? And is it time to revisit your major choice?
This is the first time I will transfer. I have a friend who keeps transferring. My parents say whatever you feel confrontable. My mom said If I transfer it will be the last time.
Are you on academic probation now?
I think Stony Brook is larger than Albany so I don’t think that would help you.
A smaller school does not by definition mean there will be more resources to help students – there simply may be less available at the smaller schools – take the time to understand exactly what is offered at each option before you make any decision.
Was dropping physics an option? For GPA-protection purposes, that might be a strategy to keep in mind for the upcoming semester.
Getting cumulative GPA above 2.0 seems pretty achievable even in one semester. If grad school is still an eventual goal, though, you might want to focus on being able to get good grades even in less-than-ideal circumstances (like, finding study methods that work for you, specifically – everybody’s brain is different).
I agree with @happy1. Going to a smaller school doesn’t necessarily mean more help.
Are you on academic probation? I don’t know if another SUNY will accept a student on AP, but your chances might be better because they are a SUNY.
I don’t know if this will help but, my daughter attended SUNY Buffalo. They had a huge tutoring center ( A whole floor of tutors at the library). A LOT of the tutors were Engineering-focused majors (physics, math, etc.).
She attended tutoring sessions, because that’s what she was told to do by engineering advisors, as well as upper classmen, to be successful in the major.
She went every night. Sometimes, she didn’t really need the tutors but attended just to be sure she was on track. She got to the point where there were no more tutors at her level, and the tutoring center, saw her so often that they all knew her, and eventually offered her a job as a tutor.
Congratulations on not mentioning Math, Chemistry, or Meteorology.
@“aunt bea” thank you for that information. I will think about that. Yea, I wished albnay had the same thing but they don’t. It sucks because I actually like SUNY alabny. The reason why stony brook is my number one choice is because they have chemistry program options where one of the programs is marine and atmospheric science.
