@thumper1 I have no clue how much they will help me. About the automatic consideration, most of the schools just sent me emails saying that I would be automatically considered for a bunch of scholoships without having to apply. I thought a 3.8 was pretty good. my ACT isnt incredible I agree. Also I live in TEXAS so thats a negative for in-state for Kelley.
He didn’t meet the deadline for Kelley. He had to petition for direct admit, because he didn’t realize the deadline was November 1. But he was accepted to Kelley on February 17.
How much will your parents pay per year? If they’ll pay tuition, you still need enough to cover room and board. That can be $12-15k, and you can only borrow ~$5500. You need to get a firm number from them.
How did you get this far without any apparent discussion with your parents regarding the finances?
@texasDA I think you may be reading too much into the automatic scholarships you are being considered for. For example, BU does say apply by Dec 1 and they will consider you for scholarships. That’s an automatic consideration that is extended to every applicant that applies by Dec 1.
If you filed the FAFSA, you have had to have some conversation with your parents to get the information from them to complete the documentation. I’m surprised they completed the FAFSA. What concerns me about this for you is that your parents may not be willing to pay your tuition.
Do you have any reason to believe that your parents will NOT pay the full cost for you to attend any of these colleges…should you be accepted?
I think that someone is bored on a Saturday afternoon.
I think @TomSrOfBoston is correct. This seems silly.
@thumper1 whoa! how did you know that!!

Because you said it on another thread, clearly accessible from your profile.
@TexasDA
Because @thumper1 is brilliant.
…and she can READ

Petitioned Feb 1 got an acceptance via email on the 17th

@thumper1 There aren’t any special circumstances. But they are light on funds for the time being due to some business so Im trying to see if there is anyway to lighten the huge financial burden Im about to put on them. thats why i started this discussion to see where I could find easy money. Of course I knew for a fact that I wouldn’t get any need-based aid. But that is why I asked if there was any non-need based money I could get in my question.
How did I know what? That you think your parents won’t pay for you?
Because no one with an EFC of $175,000 posts about getting financial aid…because most at that EFC level, don’t need it.
In regard to your query about merit aid…honestly…I do think you will some at SMU. The other schools…? Some really don’t give much merit…
At this point, it’s March…acceptances will be coming. Or not. Merit aid will be coming…or not.
Just wait and see.

Also, my EFC was something like 180000 or 175000

With an EFC like that, why did you start this thread??
Today, ask your parents how much they’ll spend each year on college.
Why would they let you apply to a bunch of expensive schools if they didn’t intend to pay?
@TomSrOfBoston and @jym626 im not doing this because Im “bored”. that’s stupid. I’m just trying to try and mitigate the ridiculous cost of college in anyway I can.
@mom2collegekids because they are good schools.
The schools are only good if you can afford to pay for them should you be accepted.
I do think this is a conversation to have with your parents…sooner than later.
guys im not asking about need based aid. I want to know which colleges give out the best packages and stuff. For example my friend and classmate (pretty similar finances but got a 33 on his ACT and he is my debate partner so same ECs) got 100k over 4 years to SMU. I want to know which other colleges do that.
Like I said…on your list…I do think you will get some aid at SMU as well.
But the rest of your list is very competitive for merit aid. You are OOS for Kelley IU…plus Kelley is one of the most competitive admits at IU. I don’t think you will get much frommthem…maybe a small amount.
The rest? Very competitive for merit aid…very. BC, BU, Emory, NEU, Villanova, NYU? Very competitive for merit aid. VERY. But you really won’t know until you get your info from the schools.
If your family REALLY can’t pay for you, you can take a gap year, and work. Save some money, and apply to colleges where you are guaranteed merit aid. With your ACT and GPA, that would have been possible. But you didn’t apply to THOSE schools.
Can I please ask the “adults” on this site to stop being such jerks (TOS will not allow me to use the word I want to use) in responding to juveniles who may ask what you view as stupid questions. Were you not young and uninformed once upon a time yourself? I’m sure I was.
