What are the chances that the website will crash tomorrow?

has the eli page ALWAYS crashed in past years, or does it only happen sometimes? I would be so frustrated if technological problems kept me from viewing my decision :/

they all always crash, from what i’ve heard from previous seniors. whether it’s just an urban legend or just not true, i can’t say, but i’ve heard it from places other than this board

No matter what happens I will stay up until it works :P. I plan on refreshing beginning at 4:55 just in case it goes up like one minute early and I can beat the crowd!

ugh nooooooooooooooooooooo

it might not flat-out crash, but it’s very likely that it will lag/go slow for a while because of how many people are on the same site at the same time.

Basically, the website crashes because so many people are going on to it at the same time. It’s a legitimate version of a Denial-of-Service Attack ([Denial-of-service attack - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](Denial-of-service attack - Wikipedia)), which is when hackers make things go slowly or crash by logging a lot of computers on to one site at the same time. The server just can’t handle the traffic.

heh needs more bandwidth or something

@bluescreen- oh you’re a techie! so your username refers to the BSOD? yeah i got that on my old laptop and it SUCKS. lost everything.

you’d think yale could make multiple sites to look up decisions. for example, split up the applicants alphabetically by last name and have multiple links to click on. -shrugs-

^ that wouldn’t work: all of us would still be on the [www.yale.edu[/url] domain, so the same server would handle it. they’d have to make like www.yale-decisions-a.edu](http://www.yale.edu) and www.yale-decisions-b.edu etc, which would take too much effort on their part haha.

Does anyone have any idea of how long that would take to be fixed? In past years, how long have people had to wait to see their decision?

Well, I guess that even if it was fixed right away, it would easily crash again and again and again… until the traffic lessens

I hate technology!! no wait I take that back

if it helps, brown ED is coming out right now and i haven’t heard anyone there not being able to access the website because of traffic/crashing.

^oh wow. goes to stalk

To Lbloom: From what I’ve heard from others here, expect about 7-8pm for it to be working at normal speed again/to be able to get your decision.

7-8? aghh. i thought it was more like 6-6:15

aw crap. im dying!!! please please let me be able to view my decision (even if its deferral/rejection!) at 5

i’ve been waiting all these years, but seriously, i don’t know if i have the guts to click the button tomorrow. lol and that’s really sad. if i’m not in, honestly everything i’ve dreamed of all this time will pretty much come crashing down.

@ tristan101: I know exactly what you’re saying! I feel like this has been a dream for SO long… and it comes down to tomorrow. I know there’s still RD, but this is a big milestone too.

couldn’t have said it better…I’m so scared…at this moment there’s still a glimmer of hope for all of us that we’ll be accepted. it’s entirely possible.
but after tomorrow…if that’s not the case…it’s absolutely final. there’s no chance of it being a bad dream or a mistake…it’s gonna be real D:
