What are the differences between Washington and California grading system?

Hi everyone,
I am currently in CA, and I thought I was going to move to Washington State.
I was looking up the 2 years colleges around Seattle I noticed that Grading system is little different from CA
For example, CA college Grading system is C 2.0, B 3.0, and A 4.0, so if somebody gets more than 91% would get most likely 4.0 A. But Washington looked different from CA such system as A+ , A, A-, B+, B, and B- etc…
that seems like students have to get more than 96~98% In order to get 4.0 GPA.
So it seems harder to get good GPA.
What do you guys think?
Does anybody has been either WA, or CA ?
Any Ideas?
Thank you for your time.
have a great day!

I believe anything over 93 (or maybe it’s 94) percent is an A here, earning you a 4.0. A and A- are different but I don’t think an A is distinguished from an A+ in calculating GPA.

Thank you.
So that means it’s still little harder Grading system than CA, right?

I heard when transfer they just count A- as A, B+ as B (3.7 as 4.0, 3.5 as 3.0)
is that true?

I don’t know about that; I’ve never been a transfer student!

I’m not sure where in WA you’re moving to, but in the Seattle area CC and many university grades are given on a 4.0 scale. There are no letter grades. So you might get a 3.8 in one class and a 3.6 in another.

I’m pretty sure CA schools grade on a +/- scale. A 91% would likely be an A-. A lot of high schools grade without the +/- but that distinction is brought back in college.

Good luck!

As you can tell from the differences between my answer and Coriander23’s answer, it’s not universal. I do have a couple credits from Seattle Central CC and for them at least, the 4.0 scale without letter grades does apply. Elsewhere, it can be that way or the letter grades later calculated into a 4.0 scale average like I mentioned before. My best advice would be to ask at the schools you’re interested in attending.

Thank you Coriander23 for your reply. I researched a lot of CA community colleges and they have only A, B, C, D and etc… not A, A-, B+, b, and b-.

.

That’s really interesting system
Thank you cheeroutloud.
yeah most of CA 2 year colleges don’t have such as 3.8 or 3.6 grade.
