What are the most annoying threads on CC?

Annoying threads are the ones where posts are parsed line by line with long diatribes about the parsed sentences from the other posts.

The ones that I bookmarked and was following for a while that have now just completely disappeared. Can’t find them anywhere. 8-|

Threads where multiple posters keep saying things like “Being an X requires doing Y/having degree Z” without acknowledging, even after repeatedly having it pointed out to them, that this isn’t always the case, and that the (statutory!) requirements vary by local job market.

(In the specific case I’m thinking of right now this is happening about requirements for being a public K–12 school teacher, but it’s a pretty frequent phenomenon on CC.)

@dfbdfb Recently, I’ve had people tell me that I need anywhere from just an AA and subbing experience to a PhD to teach. It’s crazy.

I know this is in the parents forum and I am not a parent. But thought I will share what annoys young posters like me. That is when people give unsolicited / unrelated advice to OPs. When OP asks a question about X, replies are about Y. Example - “how do I prepare for ACT” - answer “you should cancel ACT because you will spend money sending scores to colleges”!

Post where OP generalize all graduates from a top schools as not impressive based on a personal interviewing experience without consideration that perhaps top graduates from those schools don’t apply to OP’s organization.

“I think it, so it must be true.” Then, “I read it somewhere, so it is.”

If only they would vet. And not start circular arguments.

Ones where the OP thinks that they can decide when a thread is closed or who is able to participate in a discussion. They clearly haven’t read the TOS before posting or they would also know that rudeness is not allowed.

Threads created by brand new users and popping up like mushrooms while most users are sleeping to advertise for services or overseas colleges. Sometimes they are in a popular foreign language.

The recent spate in another lang is apparently spam.

Threads where the exceptions (“Oh yeah? Well I got into MIT with a 29 ACT!”) are promoted as the rule, giving probably false hope.

I’ve never seen so many “Mistake on my application!!!” threads.

False hope or outright lie. One poster claimed that his sister got into MIT with a 28 ACT, she was studying law there!

The great one going on now with that fabulous combination of a newbie poster (1) whose parents have $2 million in real estate, (2) wants financial aid even though they could pay the $60,000/year and (3) wait for it … says xe WON’T go below a top 30 school.

You beat me to it!

^That poster joined today. Chain yanker?

You mean the thread that is no longer there?

I suspect a large number of nutty fall newbies. I remember a columnist, decades ago, who spoke of the surge of pranks when kids are trying to rack up sorority points. Like, see how long you can get a thread to run.
Who knows?

Threads when parents reply to OP (high school student) and say that they are not good enough and give their kids stats to strengthen their argument.
