Meanwhile, back to the topic of this thread…
Right now, the class of 2021 acceptances list thread, since nearly everybody who’s been posting on it lately seems to be unclear on the “copy the list, add your information, paste it back in” concept.
Just saw a few more of these. Threads where parents/students tour a Catholic college and then complain that it is…Catholic. All those crucifixes, Jesuits and statues!
Ones where posters use anecdotal info regarding their acceptance to a certain school over 20 years ago to discount data provided by that school including what they weight for admissions. By doing this , they inaccurately point the OP in the wrong direction of what to focus on in the admissions process. While trying to remain optimistic and supportive , they may actually sabotage the OPs chance for admission .
Ones where posters believe that colleges don’t use class rank as an admissions criteria because " they wouldn’t penalize a kid for going to school with a bunch of smart kids. " Seriously?
The “oh woe is me” threads where families with the resources to pay for college…choose to use those resources for other purposes…and expect need based financial to support their other spending.
^^^ Those posters must not be familiar with Texas state schools!
And then they argue, thumper, that it’s our fault or not being empathetic- either to their financial position or their need to send kiddo to an expensive school. And merit only comes from crappy colleges. Sigh.
Lots of arguing today @lookingforward
Ones where posters continue to argue and debate their opinions and call other posters out who disagree with their opinions.
That poster has been a CC member for two weeks, and in that time has started 18 threads and posted 212 replies. Just think as her anxiety ramps up (even more!) when her D is a senior. What is going to happen, though, is that so many posters will have her on Ignore by that point that she won’t get much help from CC at all.
One that may have been mentioned before but is a new realization to me:
Threads started by posters who have the same number (or more!) of threads as replies in their profile.
I think what bothers me is when a poster plays dumb or claims to be a rookie, but really shows, by the trend in her comments (or barbs thrown back) that they’re feigning that. Then, it seems it’s as much about starting a thread and getting the responses, not listening or processing.
I like some kids, who do get it and you see them moving ahead, through a thread, gaining some sense. Those are, I think, the ones we pull for.
The original topic was interesting, but after 35 pages, it’s time for everyone to post their closing arguments and move on.
^^^ … because new threads can’t be annoying???
Why do you think he was talking about this thread? It has 168 pages while a controversial thread (which he has commented on) in the Parents Forum has oh… 36 pages. He was probably talking about that considering this is where one vents about annoying threads, no?
Wow, roethlisburger and I actually agree. Might be a first. Must mean he’s right.
Ok, posts where authors aren’t clear about which threads they are posting about.
No, I wasn’t commenting on this thread, if that’s what one poster was assuming. This thread is pure gold, although it would be easier to follow if people could post links to the threads they’re referring to.
I think we can’t post links cuz we’re supposed to try not to so obviously out those individual posters.
