What are the most annoying threads on CC?

You can attract a lot more bees with honey than you can with vinegar. Or whatever that saying is.

I am not calling anyone out, not in the least.

But to those new posters and to the veterans, this is a stressful time and let’s try to be civil.

If you ask a question, don’t be upset if you are asked more specific questions. And those answering, remember that they don’t know that you’ve answered that question only about 9000 times.

Dont know what threads are being referenced, but sure wish posters, especially new ones, would avail themselves of the search function.

Wait, the search function produces usable results now?!?

:-"

EDIT: So the “whistling innocently” emoji doesn’t parse right? Bummer.

Well, Google works.

There’s a new one that is “annoying” in the sense that it is making my blood boil and may send my blood pressure through the roof.

It’s from a UChicago ED2 admittee who “forgot” to withdraw his/her apps to Ivies and wants to know what the harm is in waiting a few days so he/she will know if they are admitted. The really irksome part is that it’s a long thread listing the pros and cons (as if it’s even debatable) and the OP could have sent emails to every school to withdraw their apps in the time it took them to write the post.

I really should offer to notify the OP’s schools (including UChicago) of the OP’s ethical lapse and chutzpa …

@GnocchiB just saw that one… was very annoyed (annoyed enough to comment!)

@GnocchiB I like to think that adcoms lurk on CC and match up posters like that with applicants based on their stats/place of residence. :))

Honestly, I wish the Common App had a feature whereby once a student deposited to an ED school, it would flag the students application so other colleges could see it. Problem would be solved.

Only might work if the school used the CA. And then the student would likely circumvent this by applying directly to the school using the school’s app. Had my theories that the new coalition app might share this info somehow, if the coalition app was accepted as the go-to procedure for the elite schools. Time will tell.

@TomSrOfBoston Wouldn’t that be awesome - I’d be glad to volunteer to help them!

The high stats, “I got accepted virtually nowhere” threads by students who have several affordable not-as-prestigious-as- they-think-they-deserve options are annoying. The threads where students are indignant that they were rejected or waitlisted are just baffling. Calling a university and demanding a spot is a strategy, I suppose, but not one I’d employ.

I agree, but rejection is never an easy pill to swallow. They are young and learning. If they are going to be indignant, CC is the place to do it, anonymously. Thankfully there are lots of us “older folks” to lend guidance, support, and direction. Whether or not they use our help, is another story.

It’s hard for me to believe that these are some kids’ first brushes with rejection/adversity, but I know it’s true! My kids, OTOH, had a fair bit of hard-won resilience going into the process, so it was far less dramatic & tragic. Losing early can have its benefits, lol.

For me, it’s when the indignation shows they had no idea, to begin with, what those very or most selective colleges were looking for. “But my stats! My stats!”

I get that they’re young. But, if they want a top school…

It’s also possible that everyone around them was telling them that they were certain to get in and probably with BIG scholarships! I know I had people look at me like I was crazy to think my kids might not get into one of their top choices. Certainly with their grades, EC’s, test scores etc they could pick any college…Thankfully, my kids and I knew better and made sure we had some safeties.

(Happily they did get into their top choices and are happy there! But, of course, it was never a guarantee.)

The most annoying threads currently are all about being waitlisted. There must be ten going right now. I, of course, commented on several of them, but now they bore me. So, because they bore me, they are now annoying;-)

I don’t have the years of perspective that some of you have on this board, and I’m sure that the “I got rejected but my stats are amazing” threads pop up this time every year, but is this year more prolific with regards to rejections, or do I just have confirmation bias?

Seems more to me, this year. (And wanting to appeal these rejections.) And more parents of freshmen and sophs coming on early to try to point their kids to tippy tops.

Before changes, a few years ago, one had to have 15 posts or some such, before they could start a thread. Now that that’s gone, it seem so many join and start some weird threads immediately.

The March 18, 2017, ‘Moisturizers/Eye Creams’ thread. When will someone start one for feminine paper products? Send me an alert on that one, please.

@MinnesotaDadof3 if you want we can resurrect the menopause thread?

Then there is the colonoscopy one…
