What are the most annoying threads on CC?

@deb922: There are already enough short tempers on some of these posts. But if that would cause some of you to turn down the thermostats, so to speak, I’m all for it!

^^Man I hope that’s not a menopause joke. Because that’s right up there with Pat Roberts’ mammogram joke. :-w

@MinnesotaDadof3 We had one awhile back. You missed it. Bet you’re disappointed.

I don’t know if this is exactly annoying, but threads with posters who list the schools they applied to and they are all Ivies and similarly selective schools, with absolutely no match/safeties listed at all. I don’t know whether or not to be annoyed by the arrogance or terrified at the naivete.

Any thread with the term “dream school” in it.

Any thread with the phrase “I’ve worked really hard to get into my dream school.” (as if everyone else that applied didn’t) (used as a reason why I should be accepted over others)
or
“Ever since I was a little kid I dreamt of attending…”
“It’s not fair that lower stats classmates got in but I didn’t.”

Usually they are freaking out because they have applied to all reach schools thinking one of them was a safety. Later they find out that they have been rejected by their safety/reach school.

Interesting are the threads where OP keeps bumping their thread (usually chance me) as if the more they bump the thread the more likely they will get accepted.

There’s no evidence that schools don’t consider this, as it’s not listed for better or worse in the Common Data Sets :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve heard that every 5 bumps makes your SAT score go up by 10 points!

Even better, when they bump their thread after getting responses!

It often turns out that they applied to a couple of in-state safeties that they apparently didn’t feel were worth mentioning. 8-|

@Consolation But they apply to all reach schools and one safety, often a state directional school that “would not be caught dead” attending.

My roommate did not want my boyfriend to stay me in the dorm.

The roommate ones are amusing. I’ve forgotten how vile some of my roommates were 30 years ago! First year, she came with a live in BF. There were 5 of us, plus him. We banded together with his 4 roommates and kicked the out of both rooms!!! Ah…those were the days;)

Tom, I just don’t get worked up about high stats kids applying to highly selective schools and not being enthused about attending a safety school where the other students they know from their HS never took an honors or AP class. I think their lack of enthusiasm is perfectly understandable. I am also aware that lots of times it is a matter of finances. Either they grab the brass ring at a meets-need school, or they have to live at home and attend a directional. Or so they think.

I find it sad they were not guided to be more thoughtful about applying to a range of schools so that they would have better choices. I don’t find it “annoying.” I know a lot of people do, though.

Lately I’m annoyed by threads that lament the struggles faced by the “best and brightest.” I suspect some people have a very narrow definition of what that means, but these are children. Their entire lives aren’t defined by a single ~200 minute span, nor should they be.

The ones wanting to appeal the admissions decision with no basis

Those threads that pop up right after the Ivy Day decisions (should be any minute now…)
“Harvard or Yale? Help me decide!”

There’s actually a set of quadruplets who all just got into Harvard and Yale, so there may be more such posts than usual this year. Great kids - I’ve been following two of them since they came onto CC a couple of years ago!

According to the Ivy thread, one kid got into all 8 Ivies plus Stanford REA. Hope not to see a post like the above.

Another set of quadruplets got into Yale?

Only one of the quads had a longer posting history, but he had done some great things through hs and has a nice vision about what he’d like to eventually do. Good kid.
