What are the most annoying threads on CC?

@HarvestMoon1 but how many others who could don’t ?

^^ Agree. If you’re talented enough to have multiple elite acceptances, you’re smart enough to decide which school to pick without comments from CC.

Not sure but probably not that many. Very few applicants are admitted to all 4 of those schools. I am not much of a bragger myself, but I 'd be willing to listen and then congratulate a student whose accomplishments produced good results. Would do the same for any student who shared their results with me no matter what the schools were.

So many desperate “I can’t decide” threads. Didn’t you think and weigh before applying? You want *me * to tell you where to go to college? Or other strangers, including hs kids?

It’s also sad to read threads where the student is trying to decide among two (or more) Us where the Us will require loans of about $100K+ over the 4 years. Oh and yes, need to decide today! Yikes!

I think a lot of students have a tough time when the schools are all very good in their intended major. They really are trying to decide which has a better program, and no matter how deep you dig into their websites and curricula it’s hard sometimes to come to a conclusion. Some really are just looking for someone who might have more personal experience or knowledge of that particular major in those particular schools.

MODERATOR’S NOTE:

Which I have said several times here. One can poke fun at a thread without demeaning the OP or the users that respond to him/her. We can collectively nod our heads in agreement without resorting to personal attacks.

Allowed (I’m making these up, but they are similar to real threads):

Not allowed:

Some of the recent threads have had user responses which were a little too “Mean Girls” for me, and I had to clean up. Additionally, if a thread is closed, the discussion is done, so moving the discussion on to this thread will only result in those posts being deleted as well.

Any thread that uses the term “little Ivy” or, even worse, “baby Ivy.”

Just because the schools in question are all elite doesn’t mean that A) the kid is bragging, and B) the kid could not use an outside perspective to help make up their mind. As to deciding by major, plenty of kids have only broad intentions and are wise enough to realize that college will enable them to explore new fields.

Any thread that uses the phrase “good school” to mean Stanford, MIT, or an Ivy, and nowhere else. There are literally thousands of “good” schools in this country.

@poblob14 haha I am always sitting on my hands to keep myself from typing something snarky like “exactly which are the BAD colleges and universities that people are so worried about being stuck with?”
I don’t because then I’ll probably read that they are thinking of Cornell or somewhere else that they are so sure they could do better than.

I don’t think it’s about intelligence, though. These kids are struggling to make a decision that feels very personal and important to them. Just because it’s for an “elite” school doesn’t make it less relevant or their struggle less real.

My kid is going to a public university this fall (and is thrilled about it), so I’m not saying this coming from the position that those superachieving kids are in. But they want to make the right choice, and I think we should be supportive of that.

Unless they’re insufferable about it, then yeah, I just say bless your heart and read something else.

Posts where students are asking complete strangers to help make decisions regarding their future without any discussion with their parents about their choices.

Threads where the OP gives little to no information and then the responses fill the vacuum or void with assumptions and tangents relating to those assumptions.

Threads where OP asks a question with multiple interpretations which posters make attempts to address and OP never comes back to clarify.

“I have perfect grades, perfect boards, a million ECs, killer recommendations and a 10/10 essay. Chance me.”

Threads in which students from intact families are told that the answer to their dilemma is to become independent for financial aid purposes.

^^ Wait, wut??

Members who get upset when you bring up inconsistencies in their posting history.

All the “will I be rescinded” threads, especially ones where the student is scared because they just got a “B+” and want assurance that the world hasn’t ended.
