What are the most annoying threads on CC?

^^^ Hilarious thread. Someone needs to tell the student that the “I want to party” stuff should be “hammered” home (pun intended) in both the essays and in the interview.

New posters who think moderators have a personal bias against them. Really? I don’t even know you. Online or off!

Lol @GnocchiB. I dare you to post that in the thread!

I so really wanted to respond to that “party essay” thread. What’s the person thinking? I’ll give them honesty. :open_mouth:

Personally, I think the “honesty” trumps nothing.

“Chance Me Back” posts. If the OP can’t even assess their own chances of admission, why would another student whose posted a “chance me” thread want that same student’s opinion on their own chance(s)?

Students who claim there is nothing to do at their university than drink.

Nearly every UChicago thread.

@DeepBlue86 could you pm me one?

Never in the field of college confidential has so much been said of importance to so few.

The one with the student in love with her professor.

You know, it would be lovely if the moderator allowed us to make an archive of the most ridiculous posts/threads that were deleted…

It exists in the moderator forum; we update it during our morning coffee breaks.

^^^^ put it behind a paywall while I go get my credit card…

Threads where people go on and on about how the modern college application process is putting so much stress on all the high school kids these days…

…when actually, outside of the CC-and-similar bubble, a clear majority of the not-terribly-huge-majority of high school seniors who go directly to college are applying to and attending noncompetitive-entry colleges. Recognizing that the stress of competitive-entry college applications is a matter of choice and not necessity might well help reduce that stress in the first place, you know?

Does high school competitiveness matter?
Do grades matter (and this question was about one of the finest universities in the US/world)?
Do AP scores matter?
Do SAT scores matter?
Do SAT2 scores matter?
Do EC’s matter?
Do essays matter?

Come on. Really?

The high school competitiveness question grates on me but not so much the others.

I grew up hearing grades don’t matter from my mother (who was trying to defuse my stress). A kid overhears another kid saying “ECs don’t matter” and may not realize that kid is planning to go to community college. SAT2 scores don’t matter for many colleges. AP scores rarely matter for admissions. Cal Poly doesn’t read essays.

It’s no wonder that people who are new to the college application process ask those questions. But yeah, when an adult asks if grades matter for MIT or Stanford…eyes will roll.

It’s just that, if you want MIT or Stanford or some other tippy top, you ought to be smart enough not to ask rookie questions, not to go on what some cc-bound high school peer states as fact, etc. (Any hs peer whi has yet to ever apply.)

Be savvy enough to research the colleges. The colleges, I might add, that value savvy.

Threads were the students are too lazy to use goggle to find their major requirments!

Threads where the student asks a question no one outside their school’s administration can possible answer.
