People who rave about Reed College like it’s on the level of HYPSM. Sorry, it’s probably a good school, but it doesn’t attract the same caliber of students.

If I got asked to leave a high school because I talked badly to a girl or something like that because I didn’t know it wasn’t okay in their country, can I still apply to colleges there and not tell them I attended that school?
If you’re going to reason by anecdote about your kid’s experience, tell us where they got accepted. If you want to remain somewhat anonymous, then at least narrow it down somewhat(ex. US News top 10 LAC). Anecdotes about unnamed schools don’t provide useful information.
People who try to compare liberal arts colleges, claiming that one is more prestigious than the other and all that nonsense given these schools are virtually unknown in the world at large, and arguing that ‘fit’ is of secondary importance. For graduate schools, a lot of them command the same degree of esteem.
Also lol people who claim that a school is more competitive than another because of its lower acceptance rate… not exactly how that works.

The average excellence thread is making me crazy…especially in light of a very long thread about young people and failure. If you don’t get accepted somewhere you failed to get in. Now we try and explain that it is because someone has average excellence…oh my goodness
It is almost that time when rising seniors open accounts on CC and think it works like reddit or facebook.
Not annoying really, just interesting to see how quickly they end up in CC jail or banned.

Posts that say a college is bad when it is not. It isn’t for the high performing student but can be a wonderful college for an emotionally challenged, struggling, or insecure student. Know many students like that who graduated from that college and went on to get good jobs and turn their lives around.

And they decide to post different scenarios in different threads, and have no idea that their posting history is available. And then they accuse people of being creepy because the poster is caught in a lie.

^ No, context. Is this a high school freshman, senior? A 2.8 student, a 3.9 student? A kid who wants a big school with PAC 10 football, a LAC with a good writing program? Context matters.
