What are the most annoying threads on CC?

@whitespace

You advocated Syracuse to the wrong annoying thread. Lol…

I know… :)) I felt like an idiot, believe me. Probably belongs on this “most annoying posts” thread lol

Edit: Although seriously even Syracuse could have been a secondary option that wasn’t Stanford.

My confession is that I come here to find out what threads I need to be following. Saves me a lot of time in trying to find the ridiculousness on my own.

ETA: DD16 just said that she finds that about 85% of all threads on CC should qualify for the “most annoying” category. From the mouths of babes…

The ones where a poster believes one semester of attendance at a school
in an area he has spent very little time is sufficient to make over generalized, blanket statements regarding a region of the country and the people who live there.

Would have liked to have read it!

There was one a few years back from a kid called BerkeleySurvivor. Ok, he didn’t like Berkeley, totally his right, but it was based on such things as “apparently they call this area the Bay Area” and “it rains here a lot” and “people here call Southern California SoCal”. It wasn’t thoughtful at all, just ranting.

And yet here you are…

I’d love a thread or a forum to call out all the haters out there. All those extremely negative people that feel the need to jump in to threads to trash schools they’ve never been to and have no association with. They are the scourge of College Confidential.

I think reading things like this fuel my CC addiction

re: the linked thread in #1137 -
And omg, he’s going to law school, too! How?!!

I know I’ve said this before, but every year it’s the same thing. Why do very low income international students believe that US colleges and universities owe them an education/FA? Most developed countries have education options, many of them cheaper than the US.

And the US kids who are devastated when the OOS public doesn’t load them up with FA? FA should go only to in-state students, IMO. It’s bad enough when my state doesn’t let in IS because they are taking OOS students to help pay the bills. Michigan, WI, CA, WA, etc. are never that much better than the IS option, especially not tens of thousands $ worth.

I get irked by the posts from kids who have been on campus ONE ENTIRE WEEK, and are ready to transfer because they haven’t made any friends and don’t fit in. The instant gratification generation.

An inordinate amount of threads are annoying me lately… was I this entitled and delusional at 17/18?

What really annoys me… when people post something like the following: “I really didn’t know anything about (Ivy League or some prestigious school) until after I was accepted, and now that I’ve found out more about it, I’m devastated that I didn’t get financial aid and can’t go now”.

@TheStig2 #1152: Yes, probably. I know I was. We should all be glad they’ll grow out of it eventually, too, but until then…

@jym626 Oops… It should have said they are devastated they didn’t get financial aid. I edited it. It’s late! I’ve seen several posts saying that someone applied and got accepted, then found out more about the school. It just really annoys me.

The threads where the OP says X (in the title and first post), gets many responses, and then the OP returns and says "oh no, that’s not what I meant- I really meant “Y”. Whats worse is when some poster agrees that everyone should be mind readers and know that even though the OP clearly said “X” everyone should know that they really meant “Y”.

^ frustrating and sad, in some cases. Can’t afford the college choices but changes from ‘help me think this through’ to ‘no, I meant which college is better for me.’ Well, 'scuuuse me.

The bitter posts by unhappy students who regard their safety school as being beneath them.

Another “my family has 2 million in assets and I am an international; I got no aid from my elite school. Should I ask them to reconsider?”

Why do wealthy internationals think the US should pay for their education?

Kid needs $7000 more to attend college…but is leaving for Europe on the 13th. Really?
