:). You know, I get what you guys are saying, but I’ve seen worse! I think he’s gonna be okay.
@GnocchiB OK with me.
I think the OP in that thread is going to be okay, too. I thought the poster who chided him that her situation was worse and that SHE (and not the OP as she wrote) had a lot to learn. She sounded bitter and whiny.
That second sentence above should have read, “I thought the poster who chided him that her situation was worse and that HE had a lot to learn came across as bitter and whiny and that SHE was actually the one who had a lot to learn.”
It reminded me of a thread a few years ago where a Yale acceptee felt he deserved more financial aid. His parents had bought a summer home the year before and now they could not afford to pay what Yale expected them to pay.
Or the kid who asked “do they expect my parents to sell one of their rental properties just to send me to school”?
Why, yes. Yes they do.
@TomSrOfBoston
I don’t think anything comes close to that epic thread by the kid complaining her family needs FA for college, because of the mortgage on a $2+ million dollar house, 2nd house in LA for a family member in grad school, 6 cars + insurance + gas, ECs, fitness class, private tutor, $10 medical co-pays…
wait…I’m supposed to give up my fitness class? What next? Sell my Chanel collection!!!
Ones that are two years old…or even new ones…where a poster asks a completely different question than the original posted topic.
Start your own thread.
@GMTplus7, yes, I love that thread, definitely the best one ever … the moldy 2 million dollar house, the sashimi grade tuna, the Prada clothing, and the fitness classes …
GPA: 3.14 UW 6.43 W
ACT: 35

Tons of ECs
My essay will be excellent
What are my chances at HPYSM?
Jewish student visits ND, BC and Fordham. “I was a little freaked out by all the crosses.” Oy.
Posts that include mention of having received a high-value (often full ride) prestigious scholarship to a school the OP doesn’t like, e.g., Johnson Scholar at Wash & Lee, CV Scholar at Vandy. I understand that those awards are made with a yield formula which expects that not all those who get them will attend; but why go through the interview process if you have no interest (or worse, actively dislike) the school? Actually, why even apply in the first place?
^ So begrudgingly the student does have another option if the dream school doesn’t work out. $-) It is often hard to swallow though, since accepting an offer at such a university would be a travesty. After all, they feel they will be surrounded by dumb yokels who didn’t “work hard” like they did. X_X :-q
But it’s so stressful! Help PLEASE!
Some people haven’t got a clue about how good they’ve got it.
And some are perpetually grouchy.
Threads that start out fine- OP honestly deciding between a few schools, say- and then 8 years later someone chimes into the discussion - not realizing its from 2008 and OP - and everyone else in the thread- is long gone.
…and, in the more amusing cases, a half-dozen other posters jump into the discussion.
(Which I’ve been guilty of myself a couple times, I’ll admit.)
