Whiners who require a “safe space” and cannot tolerate a considered perspective at variance with their own. That’s probably the most annoying thing on forums anywhere.
Kids telling parents the way the world works. I mostly find that hilarious, but it happens a lot. Not talking of the humble kid who actually has a legitimate question or something relevant to say on a particular item, but those who are barely out of high school (or sometimes college) who know everything and are happy to instruct the rest of us in their vast wisdom.
@TranquilMind Not to get philosophical, but I think a lot of that mindset comes from the anonymity that CC provides. Not a lot of people will listen to high school and college students in the real world, so a chance to assert themselves as an expert of anything and maybe gain some credibility is hard to pass up.
That said, when a fellow senior attempts to advise me on the best careers for my major, I tend to be incredibly skeptical.
I do like some hs and college kids, what they add. That needs to be said. But right now, I’m minding threads where someone wants to do a college tour and people keep expanding the “must see” list to every school out there. It confuses and can exhaust.
Threads were the OP raises an issue they are having with their child and posters give advice which is really just thinly veiled chest thumping about their own superior parenting skills.
To be fair, in such instances, I’ve found that the student is doing a cut/paste from the catalog. So yes, the student should know better, but so should the school. What’s even more annoying is when the course name in the course catalog does not match the college board’s, e.g. AP Physics, AP Computer Science. Well, which AP Physics??
A poster who bash at foreign student, lie about his college app, insists that he should have 4.0 GPA even though he has mediocre gpa, and whine about foreign students not having to take foreign language classes
I edit most of my posts, I think, because I always end up misspelling something; and/or spellcheck changes my mis-spelled word to something crazy that I never meant…
I’m a good speller, but a terrible typist.
I know, I should proofread my posts before I press “post”.
If posters cross post, do you prefer they edit so it makes sense? Or delete the post and write another? or what?
I was already freaked out about the grammar and spelling checks going on here by concerned observers. I don’t think I’ll be able to post at all.
I edit without even being aware of it. Stream of conciousness. It’s a message board. And I’d have to edit again after I googled to fix the spelling error. But I won’t.
The situations I am talking about are not cross posted . The entire content of the post is changed completely. Many people who edit for cross posting will make reference that it was edited for cross posting . I don’t see anything wrong with writing an additional post.
