What are the most annoying threads on CC?

Annoying me this morning are the 10 threads written in what appears to be Korean…

Korean? Lol…

It’s Chinese.

Writing in another language other than English is against the TOS.

17 year olds who do not seem to know how to use the internet:

Does Boston University have a nursing school? No.

Which is better foe engineering: Boston University or Boston College? BC does not have an engineering school.

Is it true that NYU does not have a real campus? Yes.

Especially when followed by a question concerning undergraduate research opportunities at the college.

Yes we can. One thing that amazes me is when a user reports his own post and refers to himself the third person, like we don’t know who it is.

@skieurope that’s teally funny.

@awesomepolyglot - I must be colorblind. I thought it was reddy funny 8->

Yes, a report on a post shows up as a new thread in the moderators’ forum. What annoys us are people who start a new account and report their own post, hoping we’ll delete it. Umm, that usually doesn’t work, but don’t ask me why! Can’t give away all our secrets.

The thing that had me flummoxed for a while 'til I think I figured it out is that when someone reports a post it gets logged on their page as if they started a thread. So sometimes a poster may have only started , for example, 5 threads, but they have 98 threads listed under their “activity”. This assumes none of their threads were deleted, but even so that would only account for a very small #. It confused me when a poster had no threads showing up when clicking on their “threads” list but their activity showed 50, 75, 100 “threads”. b-(

@skieurope why would someone create a report on/flag a thread xe had started?

Going off the topic of moderation here:

A chances thread (why do I even look at these?) where OP says
“Talents:
Synesthesia”

Synesthesia isn’t a talent. It was also the only “talent” listed.

Also, one where OP asks how many Bs is too many to get into “Ivis.”

Because the person regrets having started the thread and hopes that we will delete it just because it’s been reported.

Exactly. And since we do not delete threads on request per ToS, they look for creative ways, all of which generally fail. @GnocchiB

(Thanks, mods, for pulling back the curtain and answering some of these questions. Rather fascinating for some of us, really!)

So who wrote the ToS? Just curious, since we’re on the topic. It’s one of the few ones I’ve ever read on a website I signed up for… after my first warning, of course. [-O<

I think we’re all guilty of clicking OK when we sign up for a website without actually reading what we’ve agreed to. Pretty much all of ToS is common sense, IMO. As to who wrote it, before my time.

Comments which dismiss a school as inferior solely because it’s a “regional” school - that is elitism at its worst.

The fact that schools in the Northeast and California get ALL the praise on CC, with not nearly enough attention being paid to Southeast and Midwest schools. I get REALLY tired of seeing every other thread about students willing to go into inordinate amount of debts for average NYC/Boston schools, and every other thread begging for in-state tuition at one of the UCs down the road. So annoying.

Some comments may have a basis in reality when you consider graduation rates. Some CSU’s have 4 year grad rates in the single digits and some of the UCs in the 40 and 50 %s. Look at the graph at the bottom http://www.sacbee.com/site-services/databases/article2575149.html. Here’s another article on the topic http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/news/2016/jan/29/graduation-rates/

Chance me…I’ll chance you back.

Threads where good, sincere advice is given and the OP fails to seriously address any of it because it’s not what the OP wants to hear.
