What are the most annoying threads on CC?

Must…[1]resist…urge…to…footnote…[2]

[1] An actual ellipsis mark, not three periods.[3]

[2] I would say so much for good intentions, but…[1]

[3] Though, in a pinch, that[4] will do, too.

[4] The three periods, I mean—[5]sorry[6] for the ambiguity.

[5] An actual em-dash…[1]To do otherwise wouldn’t fit the tenor of the post, would it?

[6] Not really.

The ones with frowny face or crying emojis for a score of 4 on AP tests.

Not a post but when a member randomly picks 11 people in private message group…do yall know how I can stop getting notification from a specific group message?

I was in that same message. Very annoying. Go to the OP’s profile and put him on “ignore”. This will remove you from the group message. Then you can take him off ignore or not, if you want.

If you do not want to put someone on ignore, to kill the popup notifications, go to your account preferences and de-select PM notifications.

The threads where someone makes up an insinuation of what posters must be thinking just so they can include their irrelevant topic into the conversation.

Threads where a few posters need to get a room to continue their bickering.

I know exactly which thread is the latest example of this!

I wish that there were a way for CC to prevent 17 year olds from chancing other 17 year olds on admission to elite schools, the proper way to prepare for Wall Street, Big Law, medical school and residencies etc. etc. Some of their “advice” is not only wrong but damaging if taken seriously.

In that same thread… HSers that chance other HSers. Why are you chancing others when you ask for your own chances?

Chance me (because I have no clue if I’ll get in) and I’ll chance you back (because I’m an expert on these things).

^That one has always been my favorite…(Chance me, I’ll chance back). It’s probably been mentioned dozens of times in one way or another on the 104 pages of this thread!

They’re all annoying.

@guidedbywire - If all threads are annoying then why are you here?

(Unless, by “all” you mean all “chance me” threads…)

Good question. Once in a great while a bit of useful advice gets posted among all the noise.

When kids offer to chance back, I do sometimes want to say, “If you’ve got an angle on this, think you can return the favor, then chance your own freaking self!”

Also, drives me nuts when kids diss an OP who really does have some good high points in his/her record (incl ECs,) appears to be a straight thinker and writes posts reasonably well.

A certain thread about fake recommendations…

CC has all of our email addresses. Maybe an Administrator could send out an email blast to tell students that AP scores are almost never considered in the admission decision.

Why confuse kids? It’s got space on the CA and you’d have to edit for schools that do look at AP. You aren’t talking about kids from state X where the flagship doesn’t. This is a crowd pretty interested in elites.

And that, no, you should not request a rescore on a 4.

I’m still amazed that these students who score 5’s still think that their question is the most unique one in the world, ignoring the fact that dozens of students asked a variation of the question on the very same day!!!
