What are the most annoying threads on CC?

17+ threads started by the same person in 10 minutes asking the same vague question.

The absolutely most annoying threads are the PMs w a dozen recipients on the distribution list from CC newbies asking a generic question that turns into an unwanted PM thread you can’t turn off.

Okay, sorry, but where people make blanket statements they really don’t know are accurate. Adults.

And when that particular OP was already given a list of 26 schools for consideration before PMing 12 members. One of the most ridiculous things I had in CC. @momrath you know what I mean…

Ever notice that when a student asks for chancing to HYPSM with something like a 25 ACT and 3.5 GPA and no hook there is often someone who chimes in that he was accepted to HYPSM with similar stats and no hook? “Go ahead, it’s possible!”

Ones where a freshman in HS gives inaccurate info regarding cost of attendance at schools , what ad coms are looking for and what makes a good application as though they are a seasoned applicant.

Anything pushing “passion” over substance.

Undergraduate students with low (as in below 2.5) GPAs who can’t seem to understand why it might not be worthwhile for them to pursue entry into a PhD program, no matter how many people explain it how many times.

I’m kind of on a rampage now against thread titles that don’t identify what the thread is about, or intro posts that link to an article but don’t summarize the key points being made.

When a “different” family member takes over the for the OP, but writes in the exact same voice, using the same words and phrasing.

Or posts that quote the whole article instead of pulling out the salient points.

Even when not mentioned in the thread title, don’t you find yourself just knowing from the first few words, that it’ll be another plea about the Ivies? read on and, yup, there it is.

I try to give the reader a good idea of what my question or point is when I start a thread. For example, recently I titled a thread “Gross question for knowledgeable cat owners.” Granted, I didn’t specify exactly what I was going to ask (because it was “gross”), but if you don’t have or like cats, you got a good clue to stay away.

The nursing forum I visit has a nice feature: if you put your cursor over the thread title, you can see the first couple of sentences of the OP. That’s helped me avoid topics in which I have no interest.

Thank you, @Nrdsb4. I did stay away.

Now if I can just avoid any threads about the family whose name I must not say but begins with the letter K…

Haha. That thread title got changed from “what is wrong with US” to “what is wrong with US re Kardashian.” Lol. Nice change there.

How about “why are people so fascinated with the Kardashians” or “why are we so addicted to reality TV / celebrities”. A real title that makes sense.

Would you accept your kid titling an essay “what is wrong with US re Kardashian”?!

A number of recent threads where the student blames a low grade on his awful teacher who didn’t know what she was talking about. I am really tempted to reply: “Definitely mention that on you application as the reason for your low grade. The adcoms will then not consider that grade in recalculating your GPA”.

But, I have resisted the temptation.

But I liked the recent comment from a poster who seems knowledgeable: despite complaints about inept teachers, it’s up to the student to…

Don’t often see that.

All the threads I read on my Kindle Fire since CC won’t give me the nice mobile view I get on my phone with that tablet.

It’s been annoying me since the new board came out. Sigh.

Stand mixers. Stand mixers. Stand mixers.

^^ And the cabinets that go with them.

I plead guilty.
