I feel like four threads criticizing Pokemon Go started by the same user is probably bordering on excessive…
Threads where overly sensitive people have to run and tattle on others, because they do not like what is being said about some political issue, personal freedom, Constitutional right or whatever. Don’t like it? Respond appropriately to the issue at hand, or move on to one of the zillion other threads where they are spouting your party line.
Who on earth is so sensitive that some absolute stranger masked with a screen name, say “JoeBlow2”, can make one completely freak out, report JoeBlow for having the audacity to hold whatever opinion he had, and then block him as if he has breached your shores with enemy troops or something.
Those people are just astonishing to me.
It is words on a screen, people. Words on a screen. Don’t like them? Contradict them, with evidence. not rants. Or move on if your world is so fragile that you cannot have your carefully monitored safe space breached with an alternative opinion, or even move on if you simply don’t have time or interest for the nonsense. I know I do. I never have and never will block or report anyone. People are entitled to have opinions, even those I know are foolish. Really.
Ad hominem attacks are simply beneath educated people (which most are here). So over it in forums.
Okay, but if your post has not broken forum rules, you really have nothing to worry about, right? I’ve had posts removed for violating TOS. My bad…
Oh, the threads where someone states that his life is now over and worthless because he didn’t get into his favorite Ivy League school.
Please. Disappointing, we know, but you will survive.
It’s more than issue of both sides of a political (or other sensitive) debate are arguing, then one side has enough of the other’s opinion and reports one of their posts, when in reality both posters were breaking TOS. I think that was what TranqilMind was getting at.
Threads where posters blow off official data on one subject presented by another poster based on anecdotes, where before they have made that poster a laughingstock for having an opinion that varied from the official data based on annecdotes. Hypocritical much?
But here’s the thing @TranquilMind - if you participate in other online forums and see what sh**shows they can become, you will appreciate the diligent moderation here on CC. I appreciate the fact that we have the option of reporting objectionable comments to moderators who actually respond and review the post. Absent that oversight this forum could quickly devolve to a place where rational people no longer want to waste their time.
I think in my 4 years here I have reported a post twice. We really have no idea if the privilege of reporting is being abused. We have no info on who is reporting what.
And not all reporting is intended to get somebody into trouble. Sometimes a post just needs some moderation because the poster inadvertently disclosed personal information or broke the ToS.
Also, I thought politics were generally verboten.
And one man’s rant is another’s passionate argument. It works both ways.
Depends on how “official” that data really is. Some people will buy the Brooklyn Bridge.
Correct, we don’t know who reports whom, when or what. It’s input and final decisions aren’t by posters.
Anything I responded to this afternoon, I am super cranky.
i would be overjoyed if i never had to read another thread like this ever again:
not that i blame anyone for posting it – i just wish people would stop doing evil garbage like this
Threads where posters take this stance, “I don’t want to derail OP’s thread, but…”. And now we lose all pretense of trying to help the OP and instead enjoy using their thread as a platform for our Very Important Opinions. Bonus points when someone admonishes the OP for not continuing to comment on their tread. News flash: they will not comment because at this point they don’t want anything to with the snipe session their thread devolved into.
Of course, on this thread staying on point is sniping, thank goodness.
Port-a-potties.
I find some of the weird threads interesting in the same way we sometimes google random things. had you known about luxury potties? I saw them on a reality wedding and did look them up.
I love the threads that just go off on tangents. That just seems like real life to me. People get different things out of these forums. I love the randomness. Unfortunately for those who don’t, I tend to contribute too much to it.
What’s sometimes annoying is that a very interesting thread gets closed because it’s gone off topic. Rather than have an interesting thread closed, it’s perhaps helpful to avoid that risk by staying closer to the topic.
I hope you guys realize I’m not actually annoyed by the tacky weddings thread tangents. I just think they’re funny because first, stand mixers went on for pages and pages, and then, it moved almost immediately to pages and pages of port-o-potties. Just weirdly incongruous and tenacious at the same time.
Im tired of:
I’m a perfect 6.0 GPA, (WTH??) 1400 SAT,
I’m pre med,
I want to go to an OOS public for free, and take 24 units, because I know how to study.
What are my chances?
Posted multiple days over multiple threads,
There must be a LOT of balloons deflating during that first semester/quarter.
Any thread with the word “ranking” in it. Any discussion that brings up rankings.
“Please suggest good engineering schools for me on the East coast.”
That was the entire post, no stats provided.
I said that I have heard that MIT is good for engineering.
Garland, we knew. That thread’s like a long lunch, where you find yourself still chatting away, hours later.
