@“aunt bea” College Confidential, where inflated dreams come to die.
I thought they get a boost from people believing every dream has to be kept alive.
This thread is a long lunch, too. A nice little pressure valve.
Threads where a late responder clearly only read the first post, not all the rest, not even a skim.
^ I don’t know what kind of post it was, but I’ve mentioned this before…I wish an OP could be allowed to add updates to the original post. Sometimes people don’t read everything (understandable if they are coming in late and there are lots of responses) and respond with advice that isn’t relevant because they don’t see an update or two along the way (either more information or a developing situation). If these kinds of updates could be added at the top it would help latecomers catch up.
Another example of the blind leading the blind from a recent post:
^ Sure, everyone can apply to UT and get in since it is at 50% or more! People don’t always have a clue about Texas top 10% rule and might believe UT admits holistically since there was a big supreme court case about it.
I wish my 12% texas D18 kid could get in to UT…
“What are my chances at CMU?” followed be not very good stats. I and others posted that Carnegie Mellon was pretty much out of reach. OP comes back to tell us he was aiming for Central Michigan University.
^^that one isn’t annoying but it is funny. The vast majority of kids aren’t looking all over the country and have no idea there is “another” CMU
Ugh… I’m annoying myself over here - old threads that get brought back up, and people (me) don’t realize, and comment.
TomSrOfBoston----I hear ya-----For example, based on where you live, “BU” could be Boston University, Bucknell University, Butler University, or Baylor University.
Any thread started by someone with 69 or 420 in their user name. Seriously kid? Ditto for thread titles that include !!! or ??? or ALL CAPS.
Ones where the OP bumps after waiting all of thirty minutes for someone to reply to the initial post. Have a little patience, please.
^ I used to post bogus percentages, ridiculously precise, in those threads just for the heck of it. As in “you have a 47.8723% chance of getting in.”
I’d like to flat out tell kids their chance at Stanford is 4%. But they won’t believe that applies to them. And then someone would say it’s dashing their hopes.
The doctor bashing. Apparently docs are supposed to be superhuman and never eat or get sick or need to use the restroom.
A reminder that the topic of this thread is which threads are most annoying. That means it is not the place to take a cited thread type and rehash the issue involved. Presumably that thread exists and you can hash it out there, or if it is old, start a new one. So my vote for most annoying threads are those that go off topic at the drop of a hat.
I saw a thread get bumped in one minute today. One. I am an impatient person but one minute?
MODERATOR NOTE:
Then why didn’t you report it? These are the things the mods need.
edited to add: Found it and gave him a piece of my mind.
