What are the most annoying threads on CC?

Threads where the OP comes back to bump the thread but can’t even put up the effort to create a fake follow up question, and then is so lazy they can’t type the “ump” and simply enter a “b”.

Petty bickering over rankings. Its exhausting. Wish I could stop following.

There are two that are getting me lately:

  1. Five paragraph replies. Every.Single.Time. So.Much.Writing.
  2. People who wouldn't know what a paragraph is if it bit them. The only way I'm going to read stuff on CC while I'm sitting at the dealership getting my oil changed is if you format it like a Dan Brown book.

Assume I have a short attention span.

Give each important thought its own line.

I don’t want to read a solid block of grammatically incorrect angst.

Another moderator posted this 2 days ago. So why did I just delete 10 posts that made a not-so-subtle reference to a long-term poster? I will also point out that out of the 10, none of those users reported the post in question, (although another user who does post on this thread, but made no comment about the user here, did report it) which yet another mod has dealt with. Let’s dispense with the snark please.

I don’t even know what thread it is or which user. My comment was an independent add.

But a question. I thought we weren’t supposed to report just because we find a poster’s style annoying. Its been said, we’re free to ignore him/her and move on. Any guidance?

If we all start reporting for annoying style/posts, CC will need to increase the number of moderators tenfold.

@skieurope - Let’s face it - this thread morphed a long time ago into the “Who are the most annoying posters?” thread. I can look back through the last several pages and find posts that say, “The posters who…”, “The parents who say…” And especially, posts that call out certain posters on certain threads, even if the poster’s name isn’t mentioned…

‘I have a 36 ACT and 4.0 GPA, and started a million dollar tech company when I was 16, and when I was 17 I led a group of 100 volunteers defusing 1000 cluster bombs dropped on Laos in the 1960s. So which of the identical Ivies I’m applying to will give me the most merit?’ (That’s an easy one).

But also this. ‘I have a 3.4 GPA and a 25 ACT. Can you give me a list of colleges?’ And that’s all the info given.

Bumping like a month after you already got helpful and really well written advice.

Correct; if you find a user annoying, feel free to add the user to the ignore list. Just because one person finds it annoying does not mean that everyone will.

What I am referencing is the poster who violates Terms of Service, like a poster who tells the same story over and over and over again and has nothing to do with the topic of the thread.

“The posters who…” and “the parents who…”, when used in the general sense, are fine. The posts that follow the structure of your last sentence is what I have an issue with, i.e. the posts that reference a particular poster that everyone here knows the poster being referenced.

It’s a subtle distinction, but using an earlier post as an example:

That is fine. But change it slightly (with apologies to @myjanda for modifying the post; these are not his/her words):

Then we all know who we’re talking about., and that is not fine. Plus it’s not civil.

So continue to call out posts that make you laugh, cry, scream, etc., but don’t shame an individual poster - that’s just not cool.

No problem @skieurope, and to be honest, I had no idea you were college aged and not a middle aged parent like me (which only on CC could be considered a compliment… )

I find many of the parents who brag about their children’s accomplishments on this site annoying. It’s something the child needs to worry about, not the parents. Also, the trolls are annoying: We know they are trolling when they ask for their chances to Harvard yet mis-spell the most basic words on their forum post.

Chance me threads… Hahahahaha I’ll state the obvious. I don’t see the point of those really, we aren’t admissions officers and have no say on why you should retake your ACT score if you have a 34 or 35. :-q

Threads where assumptions are made.

^“Chance me, ** assuming ** I’m going to get a 35 on the ACT.”

Threads where, when someone disagrees with your post, you tell them that a)they have completely missed the point, b)they have reading comprehension problems, c)their logic is “dumb” or “stupid,” or d) that otherwise intelligent people would get this. In other words, you are the smartest person in the room and anyone who doesn’t agree with every single thing you say is an idiot.

^^^^Especially when it is coming from a 17 year old.

Another example of a thread that should be flagged for mod review.

Yes!!! Thats what I mean!!! @STEM2017  haha

Threads where one poster keeps making assertions based on statistical claims or claims about things like facets of jobs or such that can be debunked by simple googling, and continues to do so not just repeatedly, but unrepentantly, no matter how many times s/he gets called out on it by several others on the thread.
