What are the most competitive college programs for admission?

For example the guaranteed Med School admission 7 year program at … Out of HS

Or the professional architecture program at …

Or the music performance program on x instrument at …

Etc

I don’t know the breakdown by instrument, but Juilliard is about as selective as it gets. Its Acting and Dance schools are also legendarily tough. Curtis Academy of Music, in Philadelphia, might be more so. I do know about some Acting BFA programs, because my S1 went through the audition and application process. Mason Gross, at Rutgers, SUNY Purchase, Carnegie-Mellon’s Musical Theater program, et al, all have lower acceptance rates than Harvard or Stanford. NYU/Tisch Film School has about a 1% acceptance rate; I suspect USC’s Film School is comparable. My son got into what was widely considered a “less competitive” BFA Acting program: it had a 20-25% acceptance rate.

@woogzmama My first thought was Julliard as well.

In my area, the UMKC 6 year BS/MD program.

Rice/Baylor Medical Scholars Program’s pretty darn selective, accepted 6 kids last year.

The breakdown- 2,544 applicants expressed an interest. Of these, 287 were admitted to Rice and eligible for the program. Doesn’t say how many actually applied.

You could also ask about what percentage complete the program. A relative of mine got into a 6-year med program, back when they had them, and dropped out almost right away to pursue a 4-year degree only.

I am very impressed with my specialist who went to Juilliard for his undergrad. Tempted to ask him if he has his violin in the office one day…

The Honors Tutorial College at Ohio University only brings in an average of two students per major each year (because of the intensity of faculty involvement - tutorials equal one-on-one classes in some of your major’s courses).

The University of Rochester’s Rochester Early Medical Scholars (REMS) program has a less than 2% acceptance rate according to one source.

Curtis Institute of Music at 4.8% is even more selective than Julliard. I’m sure the fact that Curtis is free has a lot to do with that: http://www.curtis.edu/about-curtis/curtis-education/what-makes-curtis-unique/
