I was looking at some course evaluations, and for a couple of courses the phrase “must take” pops up. In your opinion, what are the classes that you think every Yalie should take?

Intro to Psych with either Marvin Chun or Paul Bloom. Haven’t taken it yet, but am HIGHLY considering taking it this semester. If you look at OYC, Bloom is a great lecturer and I think that Psych is an interesting topic to begin with.

Other than that, many classes like Intro to Greek History or the Cold War or IDK what else are called must takes. Yeah the professors are great, but don’t take it if you don’t really like those subjects. Makes no sense.

I think all freshmen and sophomores should take English 120. That was a great class and a painless way to knock out the writing requirement. Cold War is not being offered this year, but Intro Greek History with Kagan is. I suggest you take a freshman seminar too, there are a lot of good ones this year.

English 120 is a great class provided you get a dedicated professor, and only painless if you have writing competency. Try to get into a section taught by Deming, Shirkhani, or Strebeigh and you should be good.

If you don’t get into any ENGL 120 classes, which is possible, don’t underestimate the other English seminars. ENGL 114 is supposed to be good, and I though ENGL 115 was great!! Anything with Ritzenberg is going to be great because he’s an amazing prof!

Also, ENGL 127 is good, if you’re willing to do all the reading.
