I also applied last year and got waitlisted so I am reapplying this year.

The big question is how your application is different from last year’s. Without something different, a different result shouldn’t be assumed

It’s very different everything other than model UN is new and obv stuff like languages and demographics

wait you just started learning the languages? I thought you spoke them

and if you already go to the best private school in your state, what is the reason for applying to boarding school

What I was trying to say is that I’ve known four languages for years now so It’s not something new on my application

The JFK program, better education although I already receive a great one, and connections

oh ok

So what do you think of my chances?

Why aren’t you taking the SSAT? Don’t you at least want to see how you score? Also, if you’re reapplying this could help alleviate some AOs concern about your academics.

Do you actually speak Spanish, Portuguese, English and French fluently? Where does your French training come from? For example, could you write essays in all four languages? I would be careful about making this claim unless you can back it up.

Your chances are quite good.

Your chances were quite good last year with a larger entry point. But that didn’t work out.

Just like we don’t know why you didn’t get in last year, we can’t say much about this one.

Again, I’m always sad to see kids in ninth grade having “Connections” factor into their choice to go to a school. I hope your essays conveyed a sense of authenticity that seems to be missing in these posts. Even the good things read more like a strategic collection of nice things you did than authentically benevolent.

That you had a great interview is great. Did you have one last time? Do many kids from your Top School apply and or go to Choate?

At the end of the day, your background is a good match for Choate and makes a good case for an eventual JFK scholar. These things often come down to fit, and they waitlisted you last year, so thought you were good enough to go.

Let us know how it turns out.

Thank you for your help, I think my essays, interview, and recommendations add a lot of character and authenticity to my application.

I am completely fluent in all 4 langauges and could write essays in all four. I learnt French and Spanish in school and in immersion abroad, and Portuguese comes from my parents. I think obviously, the absence of an SSAT makes my grades become more important, but considering they are all As in the context of an academically rigorous school, I don’t think there is any concern about my academics, knowing that I was waitlisted last year and have improved since.

My interview last year was good too but this one was way better and not many kids from my school end up going to choate, instead they commonly go to groton and phillips andover.

yeah I think that would help a lot for your application. It kind of sounds as if you helped people to say that you helped people instead of helping people because they needed help.

Kinda what I was getting at.

This is great to hear, but isn’t immediately apparent in your description of yourself. Are there any ways that you can demonstrate this to the AO?

What other schools are you considering beyond Choate? Why has Choate stood out to you?

I am only applying to Choate, and apart from actual statistics and numbers, such as grades. I think my recommendations convey that I am a top student in my classes.

Yes I understand the concern, especially because my description in this thread was fairly vague. I think that actually reading my articles, knowing that I am apart of a minority and already have a history of helping people in class which my teachers constantly point out I think that my helping people point comes off as authentic to an AO when they actually read all the components of my application including outside perspectives of me as a person. I also believe that even if they don’t think I had much of an impact in general I still think the point stands and I emphasized in the interview how I would use choate’s resources and things like clubs and newspapers to reach more people and collaborate with other choate students who may have a passion for activism.

Taking all of this more in depth information into account do you think my chances are still good?
