What are the Odds?

Essay
Not giving these ;)

Recommendations
I am sure my Science/Math teacher will write good stuff about me.
Not sure about the counselor.

Transcripts
It’s a known fact in my school/batch that I am the smartest person in class, (I disagree at how they derive at these conclusions, nevertheless they are right, lol!) but that’s just the opinion of my friends. The teachers think I am bright, but they also never miss out on an opportunity to tell me how they think I am wasting my so called talents by not giving as much effort as I should.
In truth I just don’t like the education system in my country, schools are not teaching the subject, and they are teaching how to do well in exams. Ever wondered how grade inflation started, It’s no secret, its due to the students from Asian countries working their A** off to get A*'s and A’s. They study 4+ hours a day, practically devote their best years doing past papers and spend the rest of the time in coaching centers. Oh yeah! The Coaching centers, everyone in my class, (except me and a very close friend) spend their parent’s hard earned money in coaching centers. The educational institutions just teach gimmick approaches so the students can get straight A’s. Just depressing.
Yes, I don’t like doing homework.
Yes, I bunk classes.
Yes, I “act out” by giving teachers a hard time in class, in truth I just ask them insightful questions(I might be a narcissist!), which they think are “outside the syllabus”.
You might have guessed it; my transcripts are not so good. My term mark normally increase gradually for the 1st to the 4th and the cumulative has been increasing every year, I also outperform “better” students in exams though I don’t in normal class-work(I don’t care, Okay!).
Nevertheless, everyone around me knows I am talented. They can feel it. I am beginning to think my rant might be a bit biased due to my “condition”, so I’ll stop but I will leave the text as it is at the price of being called a whiner.

Standardized Tests
SAT Reasoning Test:2360(790,800,770)
SAT Subject Test: Chemistry-800, Physics-800, Maths(lvl2)-800
TOEFL-117 (iBT, out of 120)

Class Rank/GPA
Well my school doesn’t have a Class ranking nor is the GPA calculated but I would place myself in the top 10/20% and with a GPA of 3.8(calculations are not the same as with US schools so this doesn’t matter, just a rough idea)

Advanced Placement
Our School Requires that we take the GCE A Levels (Cambridge International Examinations)
My Predicted Results:
Chemistry-A*
Physics-A* (got a 100 in AS, expecting Encore!)
Mathematics-A*
Further Mathematics-A*
Applied ICT-A (would have gone for Computing but isn’t offered in school, ICT is just depressing, its so boring I fell asleep during my AS)

ECA
Graphics designing, (designed covers for a few magazines, Logos for some Firms)

Organizing Member of the Self-Defense Club
Captain of the school’s Basketball Team*

Organizing member of various events in school.
I am just a beginner in Muay Thai, There is almost nobody in our country practicing this :frowning:
Voluntary work, charity also worked for a few NGO’s. (While the work sound good on paper, I was sad to see how impersonal it was)
I was employed to do System analysis for a few Business Firms during the summer.
This Year I will probably take some initiative to participate in the MUN Club and a few Olympiads, But who am I kidding I don’t really care.
Filmmaking- Have made a Trilogy and some other short films. **

I happen to be a Power Forward at only 6 feet. Yeah I know, but the average height in my country is 5 ft 4 inches. I am good here but pretty sure I won’t be getting a spot even as a PG in any college in the US, but hopefully I can learn a thing or two in college. I don’t have to be good, just the best I can be.
*The Trilogy is not under 10 mins each so I’ll make a combined trailer for Stanford for all three films and submit a documentary and another short film.

I am sure I have shot at Stanford, what do you think? Please Comment on my deficiencies and whether they are balanced elsewhere.
Thanks in advance for your opinions.

Well nobody seem like they want to comment but in my opinion you should tone down your rebel attitude, though in truth your text gives a mixed feeling about you.
But I am no judge and cant comment on your chances, you seem smart and self-confident but not what I would call conceited (if Stanford gets that idea, i am sure you wont get in).

The A* in further maths looks really good.

I kind of like it!

I knew a guy like you. He ended up at Indiana University. Not a bad school, but not great either. If he approached high school like most students, he would be at Harvard. Guaranteed. But that wasn’t in his nature.

So don’t expect to get in everywhere. And don’t wonder at the reason why. It’s not your attitude. It’s your decisions.

You have decent stats other than your grades, which are fine, I guess? Also, simply based on your writing here, I dislike you.

I’m not chancing you, because you sound like a complete ******.

@StanfordCS
lets play hangman. a? or how bout h? :)

@Those who hate me
why? on the web I might sound like a jerk, but I am sure you wont say that if you knew me. I am not bad just opinionated.

@Senior0991
Got it. Also I don’t really like telling people bout it but I have ADD. Its not like i don’t try its just that reading using textbooks and spending hours over practice tests gets to me much more than it would to someone else. Also my family is not well-off and the added pressure of being the only child whose parents work hard just to get me through school kinda has made me into a procrastinator, which hurts my transcripts cuz I burst read before the exams.

Thanks for “chancing me”. Now I am positive I have to get to Stanford. I just feel that in a college environment I will flourish.

Do you need financial aid?

@StanfordCS
My dad can pay about 3500/4000 USD a year. Anything more and my parents would have to sell assets which I cant let them do.

Well, then, Stanford won’t give you much aid. They are need-blind for U.S. citizens, and NOT for internationals. Stanford costs $57,000 USD a year including everything. So, don’t expect too much aid from them.

Are you in India? If so, Stanford costs approximately 2,621,287.46 rupees.

StanfordCS, you’re posting inaccurate information. Though Stanford is need-aware in admissions decisions for international applicants, once an international applicant is admitted, he or she will have his or her need met in the same manner as any admitted domestic applicant.

^Really? Oh, then, never-mind. Forget all the Bull**** I just said. Sorry.

No, if he’s admitted, he’ll have his needs met. It’s just that in the admissions decision, financial need is considered for international students. People say poorer international students don’t get in, but I know an unhooked international (average student) on full aid here. Just one example though.

*Edit: Whoops saw someone else posted similar response. Will leave this post up because it contains additional helpful information.
