What are the "perks" of being in College of Engineering vs LSA Honors

I know in LSA you get some of the best housing, and free food (always a plus) but what are some of the “perks” or advantages of being enrolled in CoE (College of Engineering)?

What is their housing situation?

Any additional “perks”?

I’m not sure I agree with your LSA claims. LSA’s housing is spread all across campus - you could be pretty much anywhere, from the best to the worst dorms. There’s no free food that I’m aware of. Maybe you meant LSA Honors? Even then, I have no idea what the free food is refering to.

Engineering housing is mostly on North Campus - typically Bursley. There’s a huge amount of threads on the subject; search for them and you’ll get all the info you want.

Probably the only “perk” I’ve heard of for engineering is a really big printing allocation. I suppose CoE also grants you access to a whole bunch more scholarly resources (journals, publications, and the like) compared to vanilla LSA.

Beyond that, I don’t know anything else. You’re more likely to get a job?

Yes tetrahedr0n I did mean LSA Honors not the regular crap. I heard that LSA Honors kids get housing in South Quad. Free food is pretty self explanatory.

Yeah, South Quad is one of the better dorms on campus. Engineering students will likely get Bursley, which is not considered to be as nice. There’s a ton more CoE freshmen than LSA Honors freshmen though, so it’s not exactly a fair comparison.

Where’s the free food coming from though?

I have read on some other Michigan forums LSA Honor kids bragging and boasting about how they get to eat whatever they want for FREE, anywhere on campus anytime.

They don’t. There’s no free food, in general.

The only time you can get free food is if there’s some meeting or talk that’s being catered. Sometimes you can sneak in and grab some food. Some clubs or student groups get food for their meetings, but usually the members are paying for this.

Oh, thanks for the clarification.

I also read that LSA Honors kids get their own advisers, is this true?

Everybody that you pass syas to the person next to them, “That kid must be the ****.”

A friend of mine informed me that they send out a newsletter to all the honors kids every week via e-mail about various functions on campus and other such things, so that might be something to look into. Also, if I’m not mistaken, you get access to honors courses at a higher priority than other students.

idk how much that matters… I got into honors math courses w/o being honors LSA. But maybe the honors math courses r just not that popular

Yeah, I also did a bunch of honors math/physics courses without being in honors (or in LSA, for that matter.)

I guess that type of priority might be helpful for some really popular classes.

Actually my honors calc 4 class is huge. Do to all of the waitlist kids we have like 35 kids in a class for 23

You get free food when honors hosts lunches with guest speakers, but not whenever you want wherever you want anywhere on campus.
