what are the possible consequences of filing for fafsa before i became an actual permanent resident?

Hi guys

I filed for my fafsa in mid june my permanent residency was approved about a month ago (about a week after i filed my fafsa) and i received my card about a week ago.

On the fafsa website, it said different things about eligible non-citizens and one of them said “I-94 parolee” which i took to mean I-94 + advanced parole on the EAD combo card.

Now im worried that i might not have been eligible at the time and that i shouldve just waited a couple of weeks.

what are the possible consequences of filing for fafsa a week early and should i be worried?

“Persons paroled into the U.S. for at least one year must provide evidence (such as having filed a valid permanent resident application) from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) that they are in the U.S. for other than a temporary purpose and intend to become a citizen or permanent resident. Their documentation must have a stamp indicating that the student has been paroled into the United States for at least one year, (with a date that has not expired (federal student aid cannot be disbursed after the document has expired).” (this was an official email response from fafsa)

the phrase in parentheses is what i read before i filed the fafsa. I had the I94 & EAD combo & SSN & A# & my i485/i140 was in the DHS office awaiting an approval

Don’t worry about this. Your paperwork is fine now. If you need to make any updates or corrections to your FAFSA, log back in, and get that done.

atqda5 I am in the same situation you where, was your application sucessful?
