What are the requirements to get in?

Hi everyone. I go to a California public high school, and I am wondering what it is necessary to get into Princeton (or any other ivy league, for that matter). In California, there is a system for the CSU and UC schools called the “A-G requiremnts” which is basically an all-encompassing list of classes that the UC schools need to see on your transcript to even consider accepting you. What classes do you need to take in high school so you can apply to an ivy league like Princeton?

Also, I come from a low-income family, and I am wondering if Princeton or other ivies provide full financial aid (I recently read in an article that Harvard was giving out full scholarships to students whose families made less than 40k a year, but do other ivies do that as well)?

Thanks.

Generally these schools have relatively “loose” class requirements. This doesn’t mean it’s easy to get in, it just means they don’t have a set criteria of classes that you “must” take to be admitted.

Therefore, they want to see that you have taken advantage of all possible opportunities. Unless you have some other remarkable story, you should have taken the most difficult classes available during your high school years, and continue to do so throughout your senior year.

Princeton has excellent financial aid, which comes in the form of grants rather than loans. You can go on their website and use the early estimator
http://www.princeton.edu/main/admission-aid/aid/prospective/estimator/

What adamjernst said about class requirements is correct. There is no set list, but they like to see that you have taken advantage of the classes offered to you. If you are taking a well-rounded curriculum and not dropping subjects your senior year (foreign languages or math, for example) you should be fine course-wise.

I would highly suggest looking into, if not appying, to Princeton as it is an amazing school and you will most likely be paying less than even at a UC.

since your nick is virtuoso, i would think that you play some sort of musical instrument? if so, make sure you go high… get state or something. show your passion.

that name sounds vaguely familiar…

you play piano?

Indeed I play the piano. I am doing a quasi-competition thing this year, but I probably I won’t place or anything, but at least it will look good, right? :)

Lostincode sounds vaguely familiar as well. :P

Thanks for the replies, guys.
