How are they compared to peer schools, and top public state schools such as UF?

More like those at peers than UF (because of the school’s size, types of course offerings, rigor of the school, and SAT scores I guess). Very pre-professional oriented student body. Much moreso than state flagships. Student body is exactly like most private peers in aspirations and aptitude. And like southern peers (Duke, Vandy, etc.), does not really have intellectual student body in conjunction with the pre-professionalism like some of the Ivies and UChicago for example. Work hard (kind of), play hard type of school (a motto used at most top privates like us for better or for worse).

Emory and peer schools really try hard to enroll different kinds & types of students. If that works for you, you’ll be happy. If you’re looking for a more homogenous student body, I think a state school (excepting Berkeley, Michigan, etcetera) is likely to draw from a narrower band.

I once a description that read: “Young, fit, beautiful and incredibly intelligent”. Living in Atlanta I’m VERY familiar with the school and students and I can say this is a pretty accurate description. Not very sure In comparison to other schools, but overall I’d say the kids are friendly and laid back but also very driven and intelligent in the classroom.
